It took me THREE DAYS and numerous attempts to connect it without downloading another app, which was the primary reason for choosing a matter-enabled plug. Eventually, it connected and I was able to control it with an Alexa Echo Dot 5th using voice commands.[GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS & ITEM-SPECIFIC TIPS FOR SETUP]1. POWER ON BLUETOOTH: Ensure your phoneâs Bluetooth is on.2. WI-FI CONNECTION: Connect your phone and smart home device to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.3. PROXIMITY: Plug the smart outlet into a socket close to your Alexa/Google device for initial setup.4. PAIRING MODE: Press and hold the button on the outlet for at least 5 seconds until it blinks, indicating pairing mode.5. SCAN QR CODE: Use the QR code found on the smart plug or in the instruction booklet.6. ð¢IMPORTANT: SERVICE SELECTION: Verify the displayed smart home service is correct. If not, select the right one. Note: The pairing code is for a SINGLE SMART HOME service. To change which service controls the outlet, factory reset the plug by holding the power button for 15 seconds and then create a new pairing code.7. ALEXA (APPLE/GOOGLE) SETUP: Instruct Alexa to locate new devices and follow the in-app instructions once the (Leedarson) device is located.RECOMMENDATIONWhile I managed to set it up without additional apps, the process can be cumbersome. Additionally, the device recognition on Alexa took a couple of days, showing multiple names and instances of the same outlet, so look for “Leedarson Smart Device.”USAGE EXPERIENCEDespite the initial setup frustration, the smart plug works well with voice commands via Alexa.VERDICTI found the setup somewhat frustrating. I wanted a matter-smart outlet specifically for my mom, who I will be setting up with her first Alexa device this Christmas. Given that my intended recipient is not tech-savvy, I feel confident in the plug but not in her ability to set it up independently. Recommended, but with some setup caveats.
