Fantastic sound quality after a bit of fiddling
I’ve been using this with the USB-C connection and it’s got really striking quality but default settings leave it inaudibly quiet. Setting the volume to 95 in the Windows sound settings seems to be about the sweet spot but be prepared to play with it a bit. Other than that, it’s been very much just plug and play.

Great Microphone with Professional Sounde
First off, this mic is super easy to use straight out of the box. I purchased an external interface (Scarlett Solo) just in case the built-in interface didnât produce as good of a sound. Did comparison records and I could hear a slight difference between connecting directly via usb-c vs using the external interface. It was so close though that I didnât know which was better, both had great clarity and sound quality. One friend thought the âwithout interfaceâ sounded clearer and crisper, but two professionals whom I sent my clips to liked the âwith interfaceâ sound better and said it was a clearer RAW sound for me. Without the interface, it sounds slightly bass-y, like it’s gone through a post-edit and been slightly Eq’d. I recorded in a walk-in closet using a reflector shield and the built in pop filter and you don’t hear a âfloorâ. Suggestion… use the USB-C for when you travel (it’ll do well in a pinch to just have the mic and laptop) and keep the interface set up in your home studio – love this versatility. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, thereâs nowhere to plug in headphones if using the USB-C, so I do prefer using with the Scarlett interface. But Iâm puzzled why this mic is $20 cheaper than the previous 4th generation that doesnât have the built in interface option. Nevertheless, very happy with this mic and my new home studio set up.

A Fantastic USB-C Microphone
I use this microphone for voiceover and podcasting. The sound quality is great, and this works perfectly with the rode PSA1 mic stand. Connectivity is great as well, as I don’t have any XLR equipment, but with this model you can use USB-C or XLR, and USB-C plugs right into my Mac Studio or MacBook Pro without any other interface. I noticed a deeper, richer sound over my previous USB Microphone, a Blue Yeti. It also came with a soft bag to store the mic in, but it also slides over the mic when in the stand to keep it from getting dusty when not in use.

Itâs definitely a great mic for beginners
I definitely would have gotten something more expensive if I knew that was the better option but itâs still good enough to keep. Definitely get it if your a beginner because it does the job and has great sound. I donât know if I was the reason but sometimes it does cut off my higher pitched notes and some lows if itâs too isolated and sometimes I donât know how it all of sudden is isolated lol but all around itâs a great mic for the price.

As a long time voice-over person I gotta tell you, this made in Australia Rode NT1 5th Generation condenser mic is all youâre ever gonna need.Itâs good. I hear no difference in quality between a TLM 103 or MKH 416. Perhaps an expert audio engineer might say otherwise, but honestly, I canât, at least not while using Adobe Audition as recording software.Iâll even admit I like the NT1 5th Genâs vocal reproduction better. Warm, yet crisp, noise forgiving, yet beautifully expressive. Letâs not forget the unbelievable 4dBA of self noise – making it the quietest studio condenser microphone on the planet.Apart from being a world class condenser mic, thereâs also another ace up the NT1âs sleeve. It has USB-C connectivity. When required, you can go straight into your computer (skip the XLR) and use Rodeâs free Connect software – with compression, EQ, noise gating, Aphex Big Bottom / Exciter and de-esser⦠the exact same processing built in to the now legendary RodeCaster Pro II.Not sure how Rode can sell this mic for about the cost of a Neumann shockmount lol, but they do. With the âincludedâ Rode NT1 5th Gen shockmount, Rode windscreen, hi-quality Rode XLR mic and USB-C cable and Rode mic cover – the NT1 5th Gen should be in everyoneâs kitchen. And itâs stunning in the black / silver.When word gets out just how good this NM slayer is, Rode IS going to sell millions of them if they havenât already. Five + stars in my book. And let me also say the NT1 5th Gen does circles around the SM7b.

I use this for recording voice overs for my content creation. I pair it with my mobile phone and the sound quality is amazing when listened back to. It blocks out the back ground noise and is as smooth as anything. For a home recording set up and relatively low purchase price it does a fantastic job.

Das NT1 von Rode hat schon eine lange Tradition. Das erste NT1 kam Anfang der 90er raus und war damals schon eine Sensation (so hohe Quali für so wenig Geld). Wenig später folgte Generation 2 (eine verbesserte Version des Ur-NT1 mit einem sensationell niedrigen Eingenrauschen in dieser Preisklasse, da kam kein anderer Hersteller mit) und noch ein wenig später (in den 2000ern) dann das immer noch legendäre NT1A. Wieder ein paar Jahre später folgte ein NT1 (Generation 4) und nun haben wir hier seit 2023 den neuesten Wurf von Rode, das NT1 5th Generation.Hier mal meine Gründe, warum ich genau dieses Mikrofon für den besten Deal und das empfehlenswerteste Mikrofon dieser Preisklasse halte:- Es hat einen konventionellen XLR Anschluss (wie alle professionellen Mikrofone) zum Anschluà an Geräte mit XLR Eingang und 48V Phantompower wie z.B. kleine Mischer, groÃe Mischpulte, Audio Interfaces, professionelle Camcorder und so weiter).- Es hat zusätzlich (!) eine praktische USB-Schnittstelle, mit der man das Mikrofon ohne weiteres Equipment an den PC anschlieÃen und aufnehmen kann.- Es hat einen eingebauten, sehr hochwertigen AD-Wandler, der das Mikrofonsignal zum frühest möglichen Zeitpunkt in der Signalkette digitalisiert.- Der AD-Wandler unterstützt die höchste mir bisher bei USB-Mikrofonen aufgefallene Samplingfrequenz von 192 kHz, so dass nur noch ein minimales, flaches Filtern zur Vermeidung von Aliasing nötig ist.- Der AD-Wandler unterstützt eine Ausgabe von bis zu 32 Bit float – ein geniales Feature wie ich finde – da hier bei der Aufnahme nie wieder auf den Pegel und auf Ãbersteuerungen geachtet werden muss. Ãbersteuerung tschüssikovsky! Meines Wissens ist das das bisher erste und einzige USB-Studio-Mikrofon mit 32 Bit float Support. Allerdings müssen die Treiber (am besten Asiotreiber) im Bestriebssystem und die Aufnahmesoftware den 32 Bit float Stream Import auch unterstützen, ansonsten geht nur konventionelles 16 oder 24 Bit Integer, das diese beiden Formate dann aber as-best-as-possible ausnutzt.- Ãber die kostenfreie Software Rode Central kann man bis zu 8 (!) Rode NT1 über USB an einen einzigen Rechner anschlieÃen und simultan nutzen (das war bisher über USB bei keinem Hersteller möglich).- Es hat einen eingebauten DSP (digitalen Signalprozessor) mit dem sich live “Studiogeräte” wie Kompressor, NoiseGate und ähnliches einbinden lassen ohne dass der Rechner hierfür belastet wird.- Es ist fantastisch rauscharm. Die technischen Angaben versprechen ein Eigenrauschen von gerade mal 4 dB. Da bringen andere Hersteller deutlich mehr Rauschen mit: 10 dB gilt schon als sehr gut, 15 dB als gut, 20 dB gilt als noch studiotauglich. Ab 25 dB wirds richtig kritisch (Camcordermikrofone haben manchmal sogar noch höheres Eigenrauschen von 30 und 35 dB).- Der Klang ist offen und frisch aber noch ohne künstliche “China-Höhen”.- Es ist wie gemacht für Sprache und Gesang- Ich liebe es und setze es gerne ein (neben meinen “alten” NT1 Generation 2 und Generation 4)- Ich werde mir noch ein zweites und drittes (und viertes) von diesem Typ für Aufnahmen mit 2, 3 und 4 Personen holen und kann es jedem nur empfehlen.- Wer die USB Funktionalität nicht braucht, kann ein preiswerteres NT1 Signature nehmen, das ist ansonsten baugleich.- Im Vergleich zu ähnlich hochwertigen Mikrofonen von AudioTechnica, Lewitt, AKG, Neumann ist es unschlagbar preiswert.- Es ist ein Rode mit 10 Jahren Herstellergarantie.
