Great rules for a great price.
I got exactly what I wanted. The rules are easy to understand and perfect for people who want a simple (for an RPG) game to play with friends. If you want the most in-depth RPG system you can buy this is not the game for you, however if you say run a gaming club or play with a group that is not supper rules heavy this game seems like a blast. I have yet to play a game of it, but the rules are quite suited to the kind of gamers I tend to play with. I have many game books with tons of rules for games i have played and most of that ends up going unutilized with my players. Personally I think it is neat to have a game that if everyone wants a copy of the rules in the group can be played comfortably at less than 6$ a player. I think it depends on how much rule defined depth you and other players want but I will say, it is priced to play. In a 5 person group everyone can own a copy of the rules for under 30$. I feel that it may appeal more to casual players but for me that is a good thing.

The best cheap RPG out there.
At 5 bucks I bought this almost out of a morbid curiosity. How bad would the print quality/content have to be to be cheaper than a sandwich on a chain store? Turns out not only is it ludicrously cheap, it’s a great recreation of the classic rules set, it’s got illustrations and while the print quality isn’t something to run home and tell folks about it is far from bottom of the barrel. The fact you could buy 30 of these before getting close to the MSRP of current editions makes this one of the best bargains in the hobby.

If you remember THAC0, you should definitely get this. Easy to read.

    Great game and high value!
This is a great game if you like the old B/X style of rpgs. For $5 you really can’t beat the value.

    Authentic OSR experience
The book is very well done. The illustrations are beautiful while being true to their oldschool image. The rules are for a very simple game for those who wanted a closer feel to 1st edition D&D. There’s less options, less classes, races and monsters. And that is part of it’s charm. However this comes with some of the bad stuff: the armor system (both of them), just like in old school games, are more complicated than they need: you shouldn’t need a table to figure if you hit or not. The game is less focused on customization (in fact, there’s barely any) and more in dungeon crawling. But it is also DEADLY.As a new player coming from D&D, this was actually pretty refreshing, but I don’t see my group playing White Box more than a couple of sessions.

    A must have!
If you enjoy the idea of playing Table Top Role Playing Games (TTRPG), but don’t want to read through 2-3 HUGE books just to play it, you’ll probably like this a lot. It’s basically an older, more true to the original D&D. It’s where the purpose of the game is more important than how many tattoos your character has – not as basic as this, but similar to like when you play Super Mario, your “character” is basically always Mario lol, so you’re not super attached to him, and it’s not as devastating when he dies. And there’s no subversive modernity garbage like “sympathy for the devil”, where suddenly a demonic or orc character isn’t actually pure evil anymore, but rather they’re “complicated”… sure lol a killer of babies is just “misunderstood” lolz. Anyway..Great book, super affordable, very playable, still very open and house rules totally welcome.

    You can’t beat this!
Got my copy yesterday and read through it. I love it!Great presentation and interpretation of OSR style rules. Very slick design, especially considering the price. And at that low cost, I have no problem marking it up with my own house rules.I’m so impressed by this product, I’m going to buy a second copy for easier reference at the table!

The best Rpg book you can buy.
For anyone looking for a table top game game that is light on rules and heavy on old school fun, this is your book. Not only is it one of the cheapest rpg books you can find, it’s also a blast to play. This is the only role playing book ive loved so much that I bought a second copy (one with alternate art). The system itself organizes old school white box D&D into a book small enough to toss in your bag and take anywhere (the book not much bigger than my hand). This book also adds options to give a more modern touch to some of the more outdated mechanics. For instance it offers stats for both ascending and descending armor class for you to choose based on preference. It also offers plenty of suggestions for house rules if something isn’t working out for your group. If you want to spend less time preparing and more time playing this book is all you need.

If you have ever wanted to try an OSR clone or are returning to gaming. This is a perfect insanely cheap option. It’s clearly written and everything is contained in one book. Grab some dice and friends!
