Love the new cameras! Replacing my 2ks with these 4ks. The image and colors are better. These cameras have more settings. I like that I can modify the notifications I want.

Update: now with the days getting shorter this camera just can’t keep up without need to be recharged via a USB cable. The solar panel had done well keeping the battery charged enough to never need to charge it yet, however over the past few weeks it’s needed to be charged manually every 2 or 3 days depending on the amount of alerts. I have tried turning the alerts, monitoring distance, etc down to the bare minimum and then even turned off to see if it would allow the battery survive without needing a manual charge, but it’s still not able to be self sufficient using just the solar panel.It is mounted in an area that receives adequate light and the charging light on the camera indicates it’s getting about 9-10 hours of charging a day. When it was getting between 10-12 hours a day it was no problem and never needed a charge other than the first one when receiving and installing the device.A very easy to install and setup up solar powered camera. I like that there is no wiring needed, or extra panels to mount to get this camera up and running. It was as simple a four screws, and scanning a QR code on the phone application with this camera lens to get it all setup and online. Nice feature’s in the app allow you to set numerous different types of alerts, boundaries, walls, etc, that work well to minimize false alarms and detect the things you want to see. Free storage is vis a local SD card, and cloud storage is available with a subscription, I prefer the local storage and like that this camera allows you to use the advanced detection features withy out having to have a subscription.

This is the third AOSU product I’ve used and every subsequent AOSU product suggests the company takes customer feedback seriously when performing updates. My first camera is also a solar powered pan camera and the second being a AOSU video doorbell. Both the previous products work well and my experience thus far with this 4K solar camera has generally been quite good.Currently available for 199.99 (there is also an available 20 dollar off coupon) this camera is just as easy to setup as many cameras on the market. You open the app, press the plus button and follow the prompts. After scanning the QR code and pressing a couple buttons in sequence it is added to your home WiFi network giving you the option to name or use one of the recommended camera names.The cameras built in LED and alarm do a great job providing extra illumination when needed and the camera also has three preset voice prompts should you want to ask a delivery person to leave a package of quickly let strangers know they are on camera and noticed.Notifications are quite quick (within a second) and provided you have decent wireless coverage the 4K image quality certainly helps. Given that there is no optical zoom you can feel a little more comfortable zooming in digitally.The AI features work fairly well. It would be nice (I imagine they’ll incorporate this over time) to recognize specific people to perhaps reduce recording time or filter out specific people but I really appreciate the AI features that allow you to set carve out notifications for people climbing your fence or activity detected around parked vehicles. Since I live in a neighborhood with a lot of traffic, anything to reduce the number of false positive is appreciated. Aosu also provides the ability to block out any part of the video that may infringe on neighboring properties.My single gripe about the camera doesn’t have much to do with the product itself but more a general observation about any solar powered product. During sunny periods I have not once run out of power but placing these cameras out when days are shorter (and if the camera is operating frequently) makes it more challenging to maintain a charged battery.For example, during a mainly overcast day (a few brighter periods) I was only able to increase the charge capacity of my battery by 2 percent. Granted the settings have been tweaked to minimize alerts but a word of caution for those that want to record a lot or hope to mount this camera and use it in areas where it is overcast at times. You may want to top it off periodically with a portable battery and USB C connection or go with a wired model.Aside from having everything (wired and zoom along with a camera that never delivers unnecessary alerts) I think this product is a great one. Provided there is enough sunlight this is an excellent option when mounting a camera away from a plug as Aosu continues to improve their camera feature set. I have already used the alarm feature (on my other camera) a couple times which has proved very useful when people seem to be loitering.

I found the attachement point to be a little bit weak. If you have no snow or ice accumulation on it, and no pressure on the camera, then it fine, but I had to tight it down alot so it remain somewhat stable.The integrated solar panel look good and seem to have a good protection layer over it.There is advantage to have it integrated, but I must say I prefer having the solar panel separated so I can put it where I want. It hard enough to find the correct angle for the camera, then the camera also need the right angle for the sun. So I tested it somewhere that it bring some value to have, but I’m not happy with the final placement… But that me for selecting an integrated solar panel camera. It a good camera, but I won’t get another one unless I know for sure the sun orientation is the same as my direction I want to record.

I have mixed feelings with this camera.On one hand, the image clarity is excellent and the night videos are crisp and easy to see. The app is also fairly user friendly.On the other hand, the solar chargers on these cameras (I have 3 from this brand) are just not good enough. When I first ordered them, there was no note of bad charging in colder temps and I had to make countless messages to the company before they finally sent out a “notice to everyone”. I literally have to uninstall/remove it about once a week so that it can charge up. Then bring it back out and reinstall/point the camera.I have the camera in direct sunlight, but seeing as I live in Canada, it’s cold here and affect the batteries.This is definitely something anyone living in a colder temp should take note of. At this point, I would much prefer a hardwire cam.All in all. When it’s working, it works well. When it doesnt, it’s kind of a pain. Oh, and it doesnt come with a memory card. You will need to supply that as well.3/5.As always, I will update my review in the future if my opinion on the product changes.~J
