Great Heavy Duty Gimbal with Good Ergonomics
I previously had the crane 2 and currently, also have the weebill lab. There is a very noticeable quality increase with the Crane 3. The axis locks are much more solid and secure compared to the ones on the weebill lab. Probably was surprised me the most was how easy it was to balance it compared to other gimbals, adjusting the different axes is much smoother than the ronin s, which I find very difficult to adjust the axis by how stiff it is.Having the main handle angeled back the way it makes shooting for long periods of time a dream since you can rest your arms if you drop the gimbal into the underslung mode it is much easier to hold by your side.It is definately much heavier than the weebill lab but makes up for it in the build quality and versatility is the variety of camera setups it can accommodate.The battery life is not as crazy long as the crane 2, but still can get a good 5-7 hours with high motor settings, and it is really cheap and easy to pick up an extra set of batteries if you need a longer battery life for a full day of shooting non-stop.

A Stable gimbal with a new design
The crane 3 is the latest offering from Zhiyun a company that I think has always put out solid products. With this new gimbal they have introduced a new design that comes along with some big pros and cons in my opinion.While it is on the bigger side, it doesn’t strike me as too large, and the build quality seems like a step up from the weebil lab. It is a mix of plastic and metal, and while I might prefer all metal, that certainly adds to the weight, so I see the thought behind using some plastic throughout.5 Things I love about this gimbal are as follows:-The new design of the crane gimbal allows you to easily switch between upright mode and underslung mode. On past gimbals I would need to slowly rotate the gimbal upside down and wait for the motors to register that transition, and then of course I’d need to do the same thing back, and it was a hassle that didn’t always work. You can instantly switch between these two modes without needing to engage the motors, and underslung mode itself feels amazing on this gimbal. The weight it well balanced, and the back handle gives you much better control, than if you were doing the same thing on a crane 2 or ronin s.- Second is the motor locks which I think may be one of the best additions to this recent lineup of gimbals. There is a motor lock for each axis which, when you flip the switch, locks that axis at it’s resting place. This allows you to fold it up quickly and easily, and to know that you can safely transport it without risking damage to the motors. Perhaps the better use of these motors is that it makes balancing the gimbal incredibly easy. Both this and the weebill lab are by far the easiest gimbal I have ever balanced, and I have balanced a LOT of them. It took only a couple minutes, and having all the axis locked except the ones I needed unlocked was a big part of that.- The third thing I love about this gimbal is the weight limit. Since moving off of the original ronin, we have flown mirrorless cameras and I haven’t had an actual DSLR mounted to a gimbal in a long time. But just for kicks I loaded up my 5diii with a 50mm and it handled it with ease.- Fourth on the list are all the dedicated buttons throughout the gimbal. I have never liked having a series of click patterns to switch modes or control aspects of the gimbal or camera, and the zhiyun crane 3 really takes that stuff away.- Lastly, is the addition of the permanent back handle. Now the handle itself doesn’t feel cheap but this is part of the gimbal that is plastic. This is a much better solution than needing to switch the handle around like on the weebill lab.A few other quick things that didn’t quite make the cut are the joystick feels great to me, with the perfect amount of response, and the ability to connect your phone to the gimbal to use it as a monitor with a 1080p feed and to access some cool features and controls with the gimbal.Unfortunately, as with most things, the zhiyun crane 3 is not perfect, and it’s now time to go over 5 things I don’t like about this gimbal.- There are two major flaws I’ve found while using it. First up is that it sits incredibly low the ground, and there is not much of a handle so it is incredibly hard to pick up from the ground. Add to this that the back handle is made of plastic, and it would certainly worry me a little bit if I was approaching the max weight limit of this thing.Addiitonally, while I love the permanent back handle, the bottom handle is simply non existent outside of the tripod base, which means you are essentially forced to use the back handle with one hand, instead of having both hands on the bottom.-Second on my list of things that I don’t like actually goes hand in hand with the bottom handle problem and that is that once again all accessory attachements are on the left side. I am left handed I hold the gimbal more towards my left side and I need to have my monitor on the right side. The lack of bottom handle space also means that even if I wanted to, I could not really even clamp a monitor in the right place for me.- Third on this list is not specific to the crane 3 so much as zhiyun in general and that is their app which looks nice, but doesn’t work well. I can’t seem to get it to update so I can’t make any adjustments.- Fourth on my list is the price, I don’t think that it is overpriced for what if offers, but I think it’s probably a pretty harsh market to be in and there are competitors at a lower price point with similar features.- The fifth thing is small but the back wheel seems really cheap to me compared to everything else on the gimbal.Overall I still think this is a great gimbal especially if you want to fly a heavier setup. There are some awesome features offered by this gimbal and I think you will be pleased with it overall!

Many issues after purchasing avoid, customer service and repair takes a while.
I’ve had two issues come up with my gimbal, one where the follow button doesn’t work. I sent for repairs it took a whole month to come back. Soon after, my tilt axis started having issues so now I will need to return for repairs again. Zhiyun is making me pay AGAIN for shipping in order for them to fix their faulty product. I’m buying a DJI gimbal next time.
