Nice and thin, really easy to install and set up. Pricing is all over the place for smart lights, but these are reasonable. They feel sturdy enough. Set up with google was easy and works well. Lights themselves are pretty good.

OK – No Manual though
Alright, so I had a handyman come out and install 4 of these. Install went quick and pretty painless (for me at least). Paired them with a Kasa Matter enabled wall switch and am using the Aeotec SmartThings Hub for home automation. The matter integration into SmartThings worked perfectly first time out – thankfully because there was no manual included in the box.I only today discovered there is a Smavista App in the App Store, but the lights won’t pair with the App. The App says to make sure the lights are in “Commission” mode. Again, no Manual so no idea what that means. Guessing I’m missing out on some cooler features I could access if I could get the Native App working since that seems to be the case with all the Matter Enabled stuff. So lack of a Manual or QR codes etc to access all that whether in the box or online is a point of Frustration for me since today is Halloween and my office window faces the Front of the house, so a nice spooky lighting effect for the evening would have been welcome.Oh Well, 98% of what I needed is available inside SmartThings via the Matter integration and unlike other vendors the native app wasn’t even required for Aeotec to detect, register and start using them which was a major plus – and quite frankly spoiled me a bit with the ease of setup.There is a slight delay with the lights registering as Online when I turn them on from the switch, but usually is only a couple of seconds, so any routines you program should build in a slight delay between powering them on and whatever Dimming/Lighting/Color choices you want the routine to run. My two cents.Cheap, Effective and after a week still stable.

These lights are easy to install. They will add convenience and fun to your life. I like recessed because they are great if you have low ceilings. They are what I was looking for.

What’s the Matter? Not at all reliable.
These lights use the new Matter standard. You don’t need another app, you can connect them directly to your home assistant (HomeKit, Alexa, or Google Home). I’ve had some issues with matter devices losing connection, and these are no different. I picked up 20 (5 packs) of these to replace some standard fluorescent bulbs in my basement.The lights are plenty bright. The colors are nice, but don’t have the full range of some other smart lights I’ve used and seen (Hue). They do transition nicely with a fade vs. a cut, which is nice.These are the only Matter down-lights I have been able to find, so options are limited, but they are very unreliable. Make sure to install them on a switch that can always be on (Powered). I initially had them on another smart switch, and they ended up getting reset because they lost power when booting up. Ideally, they are hard wired on, or on a switch that is always on.They are easy enough to set up and install. They come with a separate box that goes in the ceiling, so that allows for installation in small spaces. I’ve installed mine in a drop ceiling. The boxes do require a cable clamp (cheap at the hardware store) and some wiring – It took my father in-law and I about 9 hours to install 20 lights in one room. We also had to remove 3 8′ fluorescent lights.In short, these are really the only Matter option right now, but they aren’t reliable. They lose connection in HomeKit. They work best when controlling the light itself vs. using a scene. I have them connected to Alexa as well – with an Echo (with eero capabilities) in the same room to ensure strong connection. Voice control works most of the time, but some of the lights take a while to respond. It’s not uncommon for the lights to show as “Not Responding” in the Apple Home app.

Using with HomeKit – Questionable???
Okay I first set these up directly with HomeKit. No issues connecting them but I thought âman these arenât bright at all. Days late it was still bothering me so I decided to download the SMAVISTA app and connect them there. Bam, instant bright lights. So now Iâm confused wondering if I did something wrong setting them up in HomeKit (yes i had them at 100%) or if this is a commonly known situation!?
