Wonderfully fun time, with a bit of luck involved!
Most of the other reviews describe how the game plays, so I’ll let you read those and get down to the nitty gritty.I love how the scoundrels change thanks to the mixing of cards. It assures that it’ll take several sessions before you really start to see any repeats. Many games like this are so reliant on strategy that if you have a “master player” then nobody else ever wins. By mixing the scoundrels and randomizing when they show up, a bit of luck is included, allowing anyone a chance to win.If I had any gripes about the game, it’s the dissonance of certain quality pieces. You have a beautiful board, wonderful art that lines up with the see-through card parts, and hearty chips and cash to toss around, but then the player sheets (while beautiful) are basic paper when they could have been a hard card like the board. I’m afraid to rip them some day. Also, for a game reliant on decks, order, and set up, there’s zero pack-away organization. I’m probably going to pick up like 10 hard card deck boxes to sort and organize because I hate “rubber banding” decks, especially these plastic sleeves.I’d have loved to have seen four individual “gang leader” boxes to hold their specific chips/power cards/poker decks/core rules, and individual slots for the two hard card and three clear card decks. Maybe we can see a Broken Token organizer soon at least?Without a doubt though, the game is fun. Patience is required for setup/teardown, as you have to “unsleeve” the cards to prep for the next round and organize them again (I’m telling you, a tray would do wonders!) The bluffing isn’t a core mechanic like Sherriff of Nottingham, to where you have better odds to “slip one by”–it isn’t “required” to lie. Catching someone feels good though.Highly recommended!!

quite a lot of fun!
I had never heard of this game before, but it did look interesting and I am always looking for new board games to try out. The first thing I noticed is that this is a very high quality board game. amazing graphics, nice thick board pieces and cards, and the instruction manual is very extensive and laid out in a fun manner. One thing to know, it does take considerable time learning how to play the game and reading the instructions. it is not going to be a game that you just start playing right away until you have played it a few different times and get to know the rules. the first time you play it though, be prepared for an extra hour or so while you read instructions and learn gameplay. Once you get the hang of the game, it really does become fun to play. and there is a pretty good amount of replay value here because the different scoundrels and their abilities and values gives some different strategies and pace of how the game plays out. This game is unlike any other board game I have played, and it is really well thought out and executed. I think that it really is worth the asking price, because everything is very high quality and it does have a great replay value because of the differences you will come across each time you play. The artwork on this game is simply amazing as well. It does seem kind of complicated at first glance, and while the gameplay does have many different parts to it and things you need to learn, the fun of the game outweighs the complicated gameplay and before you know it, you will have everything memorized and it wont seem complicate at all anymore. its a great game!

Quite enjoyable game
My son is an aggressive board gamer and this game was completely in his wheelhouse as it requires lying and bluffing. First off kudos to having a great rule book that was easy to understand thus getting this game to the table quickly. There are also excellent videos from Watch it Played and Before We Play teaching the game. Also, the game is very colorblind friends with a great use of symbols and icons on the cards and chips. The game is very unique with interesting cards that can combo to make 3000 different scoundrels which can mix up the game quite a lot. So there is a lot of replayability. The components are very good quality. The game takes elements of COUP where you lie about who you are or in this case which numbers you are playing. There is also a bit of Sheriff of Nottingham as you may or may not be lying about what cards you played or how much a safe is worth. You get nice sleeves for the cards to make those crazy scoundrels. The game has a cool steam punk old west feel. Bottom line is the game was fun. This is not a game for people who like co-op working together type games, here you are bluffing and lying. Games are low scoring so they are very tight and every point counts. The instructions recommend starting with a two round game, but I would quickly move to the three round game once you learn the rules. In a hobby dominated by zombie and viking games, this was a great change of pace.
