Unit works well but.. Supplied AC adapter is only 5V, a higher 12V voltage adapter is strongly recommended as to provide better input/dynamic sensitivity for the LEDs. Biggest negative is that the unit has NO “input muting circuit” during the power ON cycle, so there is a loud thump through the loudspeakers. This thump is very loud and can cause major loudspeaker driver damage. Extreme caution is required to make sure the system volume control is set to its minimum during the power ON cycle.

So, one thing that annoys me is that some of the holes for mounting the rack ears were not tapped, and for me not a big deal cause i have a tap set but will most people? probably not….anyway if not for that i would have given 5 stars, for anyone saying it’s not accurate, i don’t see how that’s possible; set your output device to 0db volume and adjust the sensitivity knobs to match. it’s a really simple device, i am using it to monitor the output of my studio monitors and for that it works wonderfully. The price was really good too. Also i used to own a similar version of this and this particular one is made of steel and quite heavy duty.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT.It’s garbage. It’s a poorly designed toy at best and overall, an utter waste of money.I wasn’t expecting this to be great, but I also wasn’t expecting it to be this terrible. I was just looking for something that would give me a ballpark audio level display. I guess, in a way, it does that… but it’s a BIG ballpark and while I’m on the field, this device is in the parking lot.I had seen bad reviews for this, but I assumed that many of them were user error. They were not. The other bad reviews are accurate. You will see many of my sentiments echoed in other reviews.I initially thought that my unit was defective. Sending audio levels that are within normal ranges didn’t register so much as a blip. I tried running a line level signal via XLR as well as RCA. Neither made a difference as to the accuracy or sensitivity of the unit. After seeing numerous other reviews of this product, I am confident in saying that I did not receive a defective product, this is just a BAD product.The audio sensitivity is so low that even after cranking the channel and master volumes on my audio interface as far as they would go (I was redlining/clipping; outputting at +18db gain above zero) the lights never went above halfway. The sensitivity pots were turned all the way up. Why on earth would you want to turn them down? Doing that makes this barely register a signal even at LOUD volumes.The accuracy of the signal level is nonexistent. The trim pots are also extremely coarse in their adjustment. There is no way to dial this in to a degree that would make it useful in any studio scenario.If you just want something to entertain your drunken friends with blinky lights that have no real relevance to actual audio levels, sure, go ahead and pick one of these up used or in an online auction for $30, but certainly not more than that. If you actually want a useful audio tool, find something else.

XLR in/out does NOT work!
This newer generation with XLR I/O is the reason why I bought this unit. Unfortunately, it only works on RCA I/O. Meaning, I paid more for the feature that I want that never existed. I don’t want togo through all the inconvenience of returning it. I’ve had and trusted ADJ equipments for decades without any issues. This item is a complete disappointment; overpriced for lacking a key element– XLR usability!

A Pleasurable Addition
A peculiar unit sensitive to a workable input signal, (starting from -7db) from the monitor output of a Numark C3fx mixer. It takes patience to align for the desired responses (L & R) that match the bar meters on the mixer. For accurate results in alignment, set tone controls to flat and play an audio test CD with 1k/400hz/440Hz/1760Hz at specific levels. The preset pots are sensitive, so use the correct size screwdriver and light pressure to make adjustments. It functions within it specs and is indeed a pleasurable addition to my audio system and the XLR outputs offer a spare line feed on my Jackfield.

Ich habe den VU Meter als optische Ergänzung zu meiner HiFi Anlage gekauft. Das Teil ist ordentlich und robust verarbeitet. Anschluss über Cinch ist kinderleicht. Zwei Modi einstellbar. Siehe Video.Alles super.Das einzigste sind die zwei kleinen Regler, mit dem man die beiden Kanäle einstellen kann. Also das die zwei gleich ausschlagen. Die sind etwas zu feinfühlig.Man braucht nur ein klein wenig zu sehr dran kommen und der Ausschlag einer der beiden LED Leisten ist zu viel, oder zu wenig. Also man braucht Feingefühl.Sonst alles Top.PS: Wenn man über Kassettendeck oder Plattenspieler Musik hört, schlägt die Anzeige so gut wie nicht aus.Ich habe das Problem damit gelöst, das ich mit dem Ausgang vom Kassettendeck direkt in den VU gegangen bin und aus dem VU in den Verstärker. Dann schlägt die Anzeige aus wie sie soll.Wenn ich den Plattenspieler laufen habe, muss ich nur das Kassettendeck mit einschalten und auf “Tape Monitor” stellen. Dann ist auch voller Ausschlag mit dem Plattenspieler möglich. 😉
