Authors is a classic card game dating back to 1861. The Authors deck contains 52 cards featuring color portraits of 13 honored writers, with lists of their four greatest literary works. Still played today as it was originally, the Authors Card Game is played with these 13 books of 4 cards each. The object is to collect complete books by calling for cards from other players. The authors featured include: Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, William Thackeray, Robert Louis Stevenson, James Fenimore Cooper, Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry Longfellow, Sir Walter Scott, Alfred Tennyson, Louise May Alcott, and Edgar Allan Poe. The cards also have standard indices in both upper and lower corners. So the Authors deck can also be used for many traditional card games.

Quality vintage product
Had tons of fun playing this game when we were 8-12 years old. Learned lots of stuff I can remember to this day. The “vintage” edition shown here allows you to use the deck as a standard card deck — not available in the vintage edition — but that’s value added because we can use the very same deck for gin rummy and whist and other card games. High value, therefore.

Great Teaching Game
Authors is a perfect tool to teach kids (and adults) about famous authors while playing a fun, competitive game. Itâs like âGo Fishâ for adults. Each card is unique and has to be specifically asked for. You have to pay attention and remember what your opponents said. My children and now their children regularly ask to play it. I scored it a 4 star only because I much prefer the original game. The old was just Authors. This newer version is also a deck of playing cards marked with â ï¸ â¦ï¸ etc.

Such a fun game!
We played an ancient version of this over Christmas at a relativeâs house and had such a good time we bought it for ourselves. Delighted to find itâs just about exactly the same as the old one.

I have been looking for this game for a long time. We played it as kids and it taught us what authors wrote what books. I plan to play it with my granddaughter.
