REESE’S BOOK CLUB PICK | #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“This fast-paced read has everything you could want in a thriller: secret identities, a mysterious boss and a cat & mouse game that kept me guessing the whole way through.”—Reese Witherspoon

Evie Porter has everything a nice Southern girl could want: a doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence, a tight group of friends. The only catch: Evie Porter doesn’t exist.

The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once she’s given a name and location by her mysterious boss, Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job.

Evie isn’t privy to Mr. Smith’s real identity, but she knows this job isn’t like the others. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she’s starting to envision a different sort of life for herself. But Evie can’t make any mistakes—especially after what happened last time.

Evie Porter must stay one step ahead of her past while making sure there’s still a future in front of her. The stakes couldn’t be higher—but then, Evie has always liked a challenge. . . .

    Great story!
This is a fun, fast read. Strong, smart heroine and good plot. I’m going to check out other books by Ashley Elston.

    Fun read
I’d give 4 stars to the book iteslf. Is it a book spending money on? I’d give that a 1/2. So 3 it is.I wanted to check this out from the library, but my situation was time sensitive and there was a very long wait. It was a fun book. Worth the read, but definitely not worth buying and owning a copy. I’m picky about books that are worth spending actual money on though. If buying books is your thing…..This is a rather entertaining book. You do need a suspension of disbelief, but if you can get to that it’s a really fun read. There are so many improbable/questionable things, but somehow the aurhor made me not care about them and want to take the ride.Characters are developed nicely enough. There are lots of twists, some cleverly moving the story in an interesting direction. Beyond plot, there is just something about the way this book is layed out that makes it fun. I love the timing of this book. The author managed to give me exactly the right information at exactly the right time. I figured things out just before I read it. So it was fun figuring it out but not so early that it became tiring and dull. This happened at several points throughout the book. It was actually pretty impressive how the author was able to work everything through the plot in the way she did.

A fast moving thriller built into a very detailed tale.
Evie Porter doesn’t exist. Of course, she’s a human being (no cyborgs here); however, her identity has been wholly made up (not a spoiler). Her identity and background were created by her boss, Mr. Smith, as it may be for all of her jobs. Her entire back life has been created for her, from parking tickets to elementary school photos, to family deaths in long-ago obituaries and everything in between. Mr Smith’s business is deception. When Evie has a new job she first learns everything about the people and the place then the mark. Ryan Sumner, a well educated, well breed, handsome and wealthy young man – is her new mark. Now comes the job.Evie knows that Mr. Smith is watching her closely and, after her last job’s problems, that there is no room for error. Unfortunately, complications are becoming her way of life as she has quickly becomes very into Ryan, as he is into her. This is a very intricate job and the story that Elton has built for it and around it is complicated but enjoyable. This is not a typical mystery. It is a character driven story told in multiple time lines. The complex plot ensures that you are never really certain who can be trusted. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Deserves all the Praise
I listened to this twisty tale of cross, double-cross and revenge on audio while I quilted. The narrator did a wonderful job, and I so enjoyed the story. Did not see the twists and turns coming, that’s for certain – and I’m always the one whose family would tell, ‘Now be quiet, and don’t give it away if you guess who-dunnit!’ during a movie. Also, I generally don’t enjoy flashbacks in a story, but every single one was packed with fabulous detail crucial to the story, and full of ‘ahas!’ about the heroine.Just delightful from start to finish.

    Fun, entertaining read
Found this book to be interesting/entertaining right from the start. Writing style was easy, characters came to life for me very easily, and held my interest to the last page. I am a slow reader and I read this book in 3 days –

    Entertaining, but complex
The book was interesting but as the story went on, it became overloaded with so many stories within the story that it was hard to keep track of all the details, names, dates and places. I ended up just skimming the last two chapters because I was getting too slowed down by the details.

Enredo entretenido.

Amazing twists and turns and you at each one. I wanted to let it go on and on. I feel there should be a sequel
