Introducing the JBL Commercial Series Ceiling Speakers, a go-to solution for excellent performance in paging and background music applications. Designed with high 97 dB sensitivity, these CSS8018 8-inch speakers ensure maximum sound levels even at low tap settings, making them perfect for retail stores, restaurants, schools, and other facilities. The CSS8018 model also offers superior bass extension compared to its counterparts. Equipped with a 10-Watt multi-tap transformer, these speakers deliver top-notch audio quality and reliability. The JBL Professional CSS8018 ceiling speakers feature a 1-inch diameter voice coil with a Kapton coil-former and high-temperature wire, ensuring better power dissipation and long-term durability. For added convenience, the speaker grille and transformer come pre-attached to the driver, making installation a breeze. The grilles are crafted from painted (and paintable for color-match), zinc-plated, cold-rolled steel, providing both durability and an unobtrusive appearance. With a standard 11¼ inch bolt mounting diameter, these speakers fit seamlessly into existing systems. Frequency Range (-10 dB): Driver/Grille Assembly: 50 Hz – 17 kHz. Optional CSS-BB8 back cans are an excellent addition. Made from zinc-plated steel with a powder-coated finish, these back cans can be installed, wired, and inspected prior to the speaker installation, ensuring a hassle-free setup. When installed in the CSS-BB8 back-can, the frequency range of these speakers is 90 Hz – 17 kHz, providing clear and consistent audio performance. Whether you’re setting up a new commercial space or upgrading your current system, the JBL Professional CSS8018 ceiling speakers are a great choice. Their ultra-high sensitivity, robust construction, and easy installation make them a reliable and efficient solution for any commercial audio application. Sold individually.

The best value in commercial audio today
The CSS8018, in my opinion, is the best value in commercial 70V distributed audio today. For under $50, you won’t find a 70V speaker/grille package that delivers more balanced, clear sound than this one. On the industry standard 1W tap (white and black on this transformer; black to common and white to hot), you get plenty of volume for most applications. If you need this speaker to deliver even more volume, you get transformer taps all the way up to 10W delivering well over 110dB.Many reviewers who are undoubtedly not too familiar with 70V distributed audio will take stars away from this product because it doesn’t include tile rails or a backcan. You should know, if you’re also unfamiliar, that the other heavy-hitters in the industry (Quam, Atlas/Soundolier, Bogen, Lowell, etc.) also require mounting accessories to be purchased separately unless you buy their far more expensive kit. It has always been that way.I would highly recommend the JBL CSS8018 for anyone looking for a budget ceiling speaker assembly who wants excellent, balanced sound quality for the price. Want even better sound? You should buy the Atlas GD87W, but just know that’s going to set you back another $40-45 per speaker.

A very good basic ceiling speaker.
Distributive sound is not my thing. I bought this to demonstrate to a client how her existing speakers were bad. She heard this one by comparison and instantly said…. Let’s replace all of them. For the price it’s a great speaker, particularly for speech. Distributive 70 volt speaker systems work for background music and speech. All 70V systems decrease the sonority of music and aren’t designed for “real” music listening. Joy be with ye!

That’s not so bad, but the grills are only about 8″ across
Please note that these are only 4″ speakers. That’s not so bad, but the grills are only about 8″ across. They will not replace the standard 8″ speaker with the larger grill The picture is a bit misleading as it shows more than one type of ceiling PA speaker

Great update for older speakers
My venue had four existing speakers on a 70v system. But they were very old, and the sound just wasn’t great. Replaced with four of these, and it’s a noticeable difference. We aren’t looking to blow the roof off, but there is plenty of volume, and the sound fidelity is very nice.
