Great for roadside shots – best for thicker car doors
First off, let me say that I am a huge Leofoto fan. I have 3 of their tripods, a monopod, several heads, and accessories from them and all are top quality, rivaling the best. This WN-03 mount is also a top quality piece of gear that feels very solid.I’ve always wanted some kind of window mount for situations involving wildlife where getting out of my van and setting up gear just isn’t feasible. But I never liked how the window mounts I saw clamped directly to the glass. They are probably fine, but I always worried I’d break the glass somehow and never got one. But when I saw this one from Leofoto that just plops over the open window frame, I was excited I could have a window mount that doesn’t stress the glass.This mount is very well made and feels solid, just like my other Leofoto gear. It even has an actual leveling base, which is pretty impressive. I was so excited to mount this on my old VW Westfalia campervan for a test and realized my door is really thin. I never really thought about it before, but modern cars have really thick doors compared to my 1986 van. It must be due to air bags or something, but I was a little surprised to see how thin my door was compared to newer cars and trucks. So this window mount didn’t really fit my door and I thought I was out of luck. Then it occurred to me to use a small box as a spacer to thicken my door and it worked great. Coincidentally, the perfect size box I found is from a Leofoto tripod accessory. You can see in my photos how this worked.No head is included, so keep that in mind. I tried several heads, and all worked great. The Leofoto LH-47 head (https://amzn.to/3V017iO) is nice and beefy for longer lenses/heavy loads and the Leofoto LH-30 head (https://amzn.to/3De9Cka) makes for a more compact solution, with a load rating of 13 pounds. I even tried the Leofoto BV-10 fluid head (https://amzn.to/3HjOoDN), which would work great if shooting video, although I found it worked best without the handle attached. Of course, whatever head you have handy will probably work just fine. Larger diameter heads will cover up one of the bubble levels, but no big deal.Why have I always wanted a window mount? Well, I live in the Colorado Rockies and there is an abundance of wildlife, especially in the mountains. Wildlife sightings are extremely common. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve missed a good photo opportunity by not being prepared as I drive along the mountain roads. Sometimes I may have had my camera with big lens on the passenger seat, but lighting conditions and other factors made for some shaky hand held images. With this window “rig”, with camera and lens attached, can sit on the floor in front of the passenger seat and I’ll be ready to go at a moments notice with a rock solid mount.

It has a very nice size to fit over any door I try it on, and the adjustability allows me to get a good solid level even when the door has artistic waves and shapes that would otherwise be unaccommodating.When I first saw the metal squares on the back, I thought they would make contact with the paint, but they’re recessed deep enough behind the bars that there’s no way anything but the soft rubber or leather material will ever touch.The ball mount has set screws so I can lock my head on top and not have to worry about it coming off. The ball locks down securely with a lock knob on the bottom, and swivels very cleanly wherever I want it.The whole thing feels incredibly strong, and I like that the whole thing, even down to the thumb nuts are made out of metal.Overall a great mount.Highly recommended.
