UPDATE: Working great with Matter-over-Thread!
So I originally purchased the Lock+ and was pretty disappointed with the Bluetooth performance and lack of HomeKit integration using Connect.However, in the last week, Level released an OTA update that upgraded my existing Lock+ to support Matter over Thread. I ran the update which went completely smoothly and now the lock performance is unbelievably good.It works great over a small Thread network I have in my house which includes a third generation Apple TV 4K with ethernet (the Wi-Fi only version doesn’t support thread). I easily paired the lock into HomeKit using the Home app and the provided matter pairing code. It was one of those very rare smart home situations where everything just worked.Major kudos to the Level Lock team for doing this so well. It completely renewed my confidence in the product.

Works alone great, looks great, smart home integration iffy
This is a great-looking lock that doesn’t look like the usual bulky smart locks. It also comes in polished brass, which was important to match the rest of my home. Too many other brands don’t offer that option. It was very easy to install, and even with my slightly questionable door from the very early 20th century, it works great.Using it with Apple Home Key works perfectly every time. I feel good knowing that I can use my phone if I happen to forget my keys, and I like having the ability to use a key in case the lock battery dies. I don’t think that will be a problem since it alerts you to the battery level through the app, and it’s extremely easy to replace the battery.The only problems I’ve had are with Apple Home integration and the touch-to-lock/unlock feature. Even with the Level Connect wifi bridge, frequently, the lock shows “no response” in the Apple Home app, but if I open it in the Level app and then check the Apple Home app, it’s back. I also get alerts from Apple Home long after a lock or unlock event has occurred, but I don’t know why.The touch feature has failed the last few times I tried it, I guess because the app doesn’t know my location at the moment I’m trying it or something. I can just tap my iPhone to the door and it locks/unlocks immediately, though.I wish Level had Thread in the lock rather than the Connect bridge. Wi-Fi has never been as reliable or fast for smart home devices as Thread, at least for me.I do recommend this lock and your mileage may vary with the issues I’ve encountered. Overall, I’m pretty happy with this lock.
