Fantastic external ssd
I’ve relied on Lexar for decades to provide quality stuff, and again, they didn’t disappoint. This drive is physically sturdy and it’s nice that there’s what seems to be a solid aluminum core wrapped up in a durable but forgiving material.I’d have no doubt that over-hand throwing this thing down a flight of stairs would have absolutely no effect on how it well it works.I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing could survive a round in a washing machine, either. The cable it comes with conveniently converts from (USB-C to USB-C) to (USB-C to USB-A) so it’s perfect for my newer laptops and my older ones.Very happy long-time customer!

good build quality
This is the first time I have used a Lexar product, and I can say the quality is on par with Samsung and Sandisk. The Armor 700 portable is on the same level as the new Sandisk Extreme Pro Portable and Samsung’s T9. They are all rugged external storage devices that provide some peace of mind against physical abuse. I don’t own the other products for comparison, but I do have a T5 that usually reads and writes files at a consistent 500 Mbps, and in some cases, 550 Mbps using a 10 Gbps port.On my initial setup, the Lexar Armor 700 connected to a PC is detected right away. The default format is exFAT, which is ideal for both Mac and Windows, allowing the transfer of large files or recording large video files when used on cameras or iPhones with USB-C. It includes free software for adding privacy to your files using encrypted passwords. I changed the format to NTFS to make it able to run PC games from it.In my testing, the advertised speeds weren’t met when moving large files. I tried three different PCs: one laptop with a USB 4 (40 Gbps) USB-C port, another laptop with Intel’s Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a desktop PC with a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20 Gbps) USB-C port. The Intel Thunderbolt 4 was the only time I saw speeds reaching 1.7 Gbps during an import of a 180 GB file for a brief time (about 40 GB), then hanging around 800 Mbps after that, with exports around 1 Gbps with small dips. On the AMD laptop with USB 4, it was around 900 Mbps during exports and 800 Mbps for file imports. The desktop was the most consistent with a flatline, using the less capable USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 port, achieving 950 Mbps during exports and 900 Mbps during imports. Here is a summary:- USB 4 (40 Gbps): export 900 Mbps / import 800 Mbps- USB 3.2 Gen 2 (20 Gbps): export 950 Mbps / import 900 Mbps- Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gbps): export 1 Gbps / import 1.7 GbpsIt’s fast, but I’m not impressed when comparing it to my aging T5 that I bought five years ago. The speeds aren’t consistent, with a lot of dips except on my desktop PC, which makes me think the storage speeds are very dependent on the device being used. It got a little warm during transfers but nothing to worry about. It’s meant to compete with more expensive storage alternatives like the ones mentioned before. If you are okay with the discrepancies in speeds, which are probably due to the laptops limited power for these tasks, I think it’s still a great option. It’s plenty fast and works as it should on my desktop.

Blazing fast and easy to set up!
Iâm thoroughly impressed with the size, weight, and ease of setup for this drive! Itâs so small and light, and blazing fast!!!Note: One image made it look like it was MagSafe, however this is not the case

Compact
When I first saw this, it was almost alarming how small these storage devices have gotten. The ads show (and state) waterproof/dustproof ratings as well as what appears to be magsafe options? I don’t have a need for any of that, but good that it’s an option I guess? As far as storage goes, after formating, it true to its word. As for speed, I don’t think you’re going to be running a information heavy game from it, but file transfers are dome well before hitting any real strain. So I would say, I’m sure there are faster out there, but this is more than fast enough. Price is a bit higher than some other options, but having the flexibility of options mentioned above can account for that.

Great drive for backups!
I was looking for a fast and durable drive to use for my Mac’s Time Machine backups. I chose this since it seemed like it had fast connectivity and was very durable, so I wouldn’t have to worry as much about accidental spills or drops. So far, I have had no problems with this drive! Backing up my entire disk was pretty quick, so I am sure that this disk is really fast. Never have had any odd issues with connectivity either; cable is always secure. I am very pleased with this disk and think it will serve me well for years!
