Tough little device
Unit was dropped from a 6ft shelf during charging on to a concrete floor and not only did the game still run but no cracks on the case and screen was still intact. Runs also very well for the size and games it runs. My daughter will love it!

Christmas gift for 14 y/o nephew
Itâs a cute little device. Has a lot of games on it. Probably best for an older adult as it has older games on it. Disappointed it didnât come with a charger. Box looked opened when I opened the delivery box. Maybe it was returned.

Excellent emulator handheld — my personal go-to!
Anbernic has a ton of these handheld emulator devices on the market now. Some people get annoyed by this, but I would always rather have more options than fewer, and the 40XXV is a home-run in my book. It’s rocking the same H700 Allwinner CPU you find in all of their XX devices, which will play every system from Atari all the way up through Dreamcast/PSP, though not the entire library of those systems. You probably won’t want to use this for PSP due to the screen’s aspect ratio, but for DC and below it’s outstanding (I hear some heavy DC games don’t run smoothly on this thing, but every DC game I’ve tried has worked fine). The controls are fantastic — and this is coming from someone who has about a dozen of these kinds of devices from different companies. The D-pad is sublime — my favorite of them all — and the face buttons feel great to use. Even the angling of the triggers are great.A lot of people whine about this thing having a single joystick. Personally I think it’s awesome because 1) I’m not a huge fan of FPSes anyway, which is the main use for a second stick, and 2) the systems this plays either use 1 joystick (MAME, N64), or no joystick at all. Even PS1 rarely used the sticks. Yes, the out-of-box (OOB) stick has the famous Anbernic cardinal snapping issue, but installing the latest build of MuOS or Knulli eliminates this problem. I can understand someone saying that the OOB experience should be better for something that costs money, but if you’re seriously into this hobby at all you know that custom firmware (CFW) is the name of the game… it is what it is.The screen is a smidge under 4″, which is big, bright, and great for anything you want to run on it. 4:3, 3:2, 8:7, even vertical arcade, all run great once you tinker with Retroarch a little. Sound is loud as heck at first and the rocker appears to need individual presses to raise/lower the volume (i.e., press and hold only registers one press, at least on mine), but that’s a minor gripe. Not sure if that’s the device or MuOS, which is the CFW I use on it.Like most of these devices, some tinkerage is required to get a great experience and a lot of times the “value” judgments for these things are based on how close you can force it to get to that “perfect” (for the individual user) experience you’re after. For me, the chunky vertical form factor, big bright screen, single stick, amazing buttons, ability to run some of the best CFWs out there, and nice blue color get it done. Half the reason you get these things is to mess around under the hood to see what you can make it do, and this one is close to perfect for me.

Decent handheld emulator for upto PS1 with 2x resolution + some additional systems with patience
As usual Anbernic’s stock Linux OS kinda stinks. The only good thing about them FLOODING the market with all of these H700 chipset devices is that quite a few of the alternative OS devlopers are supporting these devices.Trust me when I say the alternatives are MUCH better. The hardware is solid and the screen is amazing. The single joystick could have been left out only because the 1 system you would use it for and that it can SORTA emulate also mostly stinks (N64 emulation isn’t the best on this system)If you’re patient and like to mess with configurations, you can get some solid N64 performance.Dreamcast is pretty solid. Saturn emulation is hit or miss (more miss than hit). PS1 and lower is FLAWLESS.

Good selection of games, but this is for older people adults not kids

Itâs cool⦠ish
I really expected it to be a little beefier than it is. Itâs extremely light but almost cheap feeling. Mine came with some scratches on the front and honestly, itâs a little chaotic. There are some games where the play button wonât work, but itâs cool. I mean itâs OK. I probably wouldnât purchase this one. Definitely not for kids because of the lack of parental control. It definitely was a little disappointing. Iâll still use it, but itâs definitely not as cool as I thought it was going to be.

Ships with corrupt disc. Do your research first.
Such a disappointment on Christmas. Worked for an hour, then stopped. My kid handled it okay, but Iâm furious bc after some quick online research I learned this is a common problem. I could âflash the driveâ which would involve buying additional items, but so wrong to buy a product on Amazon for 90 bucks that ships needing to be fixed right out of the box. YOU flash the damn disc BEFORE selling it.

Hmmm
I wish the screen was bigger and to be honest for old games you kinda need minimum of 10 inch display. I would expect more at this price point. Yes screen is better than before but not the best quality. I also expected more games on it. I tried to install roms, but it needed me to install emulator. And that didnât go well. All what i needed was super Mario. Also the file management is not good and confusing when you open file manager.I can see this being a great console for some people, but not for me . I think when I pay 90 dollar in 2024 for something like this, it should be ready to go with thousand of games specifically the top 10 popular games that get you nostalgia.
