Two-way transfer for iOS users with iOS 13.0 or later

Files app is an important app that can transfer files from your memory card or USB disc to your iPhone and iPad.

Data from iPhone is on “On My iPhone”, data from memory card is on “Untiled” (or “No Name”, which is the name of your memory card), and USB disc is directly displayed by name.

You can view data and transfer data between memory card, USB disc and iPhone.

Files app can manage not only videos and photos, but also music, PDF, word or Excel, etc.

1. Insert the memory card or USB disc into the card reader. Turn on iPhone or iPad and connect the card reader to the Lightning port.

2. On iPhone or iPad, open the “Files” app. You can view files in the memory card or USB disc. You can view most files such as jpg, MP3, word, excel, ppt, etc. If you can view the file data but cannot open it, you will need to download a third-party app to read it.

3. You can delete the file or copy and paste the file from the memory card or USB disc to your iPhone or iPad. Or copy the file from iPhone or iPad to the memory card or USB disc.

Everything you need, nothing you don’t.
Of the most ironic ways I tested this, I plugged the USB-A end of an iXpand flash drive into it, then connected the Lightning connector to my Apple device. Holy crap Batman, it worked without the need for a buggy app. At least, on modern iOS it did. Older iOS versions will be stuck with iXpand. But let’s refocus this review on the product itself, the convenience of it, and the compatibility.First, I love that there’s no need for an adapter. No lightning adapter that piggybacks on a USB-C connector or vice versa. There’s just two short cables featuring the only two connectors most modern phones use. (We don’t talk about micro USB here.)Second, it has full size SD, microSD, and a female USB 3 port. Some competitors have a pass through charging port, but I don’t care. Every other USB OTG adapter I use for Android devices doesn’t have one anyway, so who cares.Third, no additional software required. Again, this is amazing. I’m not used to third party devices like this just working on iOS, but perhaps phasing out the Lightning connector has something to do with that.Who and what this is for?Anyone who needs to access and manage flash memory on a mobile device on iOS or Android. Allegedly you can use USB OTG on iOS with digital cameras and USB microphones, but this is outside the scope of my review. I would think they’re compatible as it’s just a female USB port, but your mileage may vary. Even if this feature is supported through that USB port, you still have to use a device recognized by the host OS (in this case iOS, but same goes for Android). In terms of flash memory, I tested fat32, exfat and NTFS filesystems. If you want read/write support, stick to fat32 and exfat formatted devices. These are generally universal for whatever desktop and mobile OS you may use (including Linux), but keep in mind fat32 has a 4GB limit on individual file size.NTFS was actually readable in iOS and Android, but only writeable in Android. This is less of a fault of iOS to me as it was a bonus for my Android device. I never expect that NTFS will work out of the box on any mobile operating system. Though I’d imagine Microsoft would support it on their brand of Android devices… your mileage may vary. Just don’t expect NTFS to work. It’s not the fault of the adapter anyway. How to tell if you have read/write support in iOS? Do the equivalent of a “right click” on a file on your flash memory device. If it shows the red text “Delete” button, it will actually delete that file if you click it. This button does NOT appear when NTFS devices are connected to iOS. You can copy from them no problem. Just can’t delete anything or copy to an NTFS device. All in all, this product behaves exactly as I would have both hoped and expected. I do recommend this if you have a need for file management on the go. Really handy device.

    Works great!
I got this to act as a USB port for my iPad Pro, since it’s bereft of USB ports and I just got this great new mechanical keyboard that’s of the wired variety instead of the Bluetooth variety and therefore seemingly incompatible with a device that lacks USB ports. Thanks to this adapter, that little issue was resolved in short order and then some! Not only am I typing this review on my lovely mechanical and wired keyboard (that will shortly be receiving a review as well!) that is connected to my iPad Pro with this adapter, I can just as easily offload all my photos and try out the growing pile of peripherals that have been waiting for me to sit down at my desktop to use them. It was the easiest thing in the world – I just had to plug in the keyboard and plug the other side of it into my tablet! Everything changed for the more convenient and tech-friendly in my life and I’m delighted!

Perfect card reader for all platforms
I love that this has both lightning and USB-c connectors. the plug ends are standard size so they fit no matter what case you have on the phone or tablet. I tested transferring a large (22 gb) folder from my computer to a microSD card. It took more than 20 minutes, but that was the same as another adapter I have, so I don’t blame the adapter as much as the card and the sheer size of the folder. The card slots are well made. I have had problems with microSD card adapters allowing the card to miss the inner port and end up wedged in the adapter along side the inner slot. That does not happen with this adapter. The slot for the microSD card is well built and does not have a gap that would allow the card to miss the inner port. This is a great adapter. My iPhone, iPad and laptop all read the card without issue. This is definitely a 5 Star adapter.

    Great tool!
I recently picked up an SD Card Reader for my iPhone, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for me. Whether I’m transferring photos, videos, or files from my camera or drone, this little gadget makes everything so much easier. What I Love: • Super Easy to Use: All I have to do is plug it into my phone, and the Photos app or Files app pops right up. No extra apps, no hassle—it just works. • Fast Transfers: It’s surprisingly quick. Even with large video files or RAW photos, the transfers are done in no time. • Compact and Portable: I can toss it in my bag or pocket, and it’s always there when I need it. Perfect for trips when I don’t want to lug around a laptop.A Couple of Downsides: • Battery Drain: It does use my iPhone’s battery, so I’ve noticed a bit of a drain when transferring a lot of files. • File Management: It’s mostly seamless, but some non-photo or video files don’t show up as easily. It’s not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind. Why I Recommend It:If you’re someone who likes to edit photos on the go, share high-quality content quickly, or just save time, this SD Card Reader is a must-have. It’s made my workflow so much smoother, and I can’t imagine not having it now.Would I buy it again? Absolutely. It’s one of those small gadgets that packs a big punch.

    Believer
I had my reservations about this reader as older flash drive models required an app. I had to stay on top of things as the transfers would stop when the phone locked. Not so wiith this dongle as it was instantly recognized by my IPhone 15 Pro Max! I will admit that the iOS instructions took me a while to understand. When I saw the card’s name, I was elated. I did a flawless transfer and was able to access it on the phone and my Windows laptop! I am going to use it as an addition to Google Photos/Drive backups as well any files that a too big to email/message to myself. This will eliminate the need to use Nikon’s app to transfer from my ancient camera to my phones!
