Really Solid
Most of the USB slots on my computers are USB-A 3.0, and I like very much the ability to insert that tiny SSD directly into my USB-A slots without any additional cables or any flimsy adapters. It’s a really good device, just keep in mind: because of its very high-speed characteristics along with tiny heat-dissipation surface, it might quickly get overheated, causing speed degradation while transferring big files. The first thing I did upon receiving it, was low-level formatting. To avoid overheating I used a small personal fan, which helped to keep the SSD’s temperature just slightly warm. And as you can see on the 1st image, the write-speed during the formatting was stable around 640 MB/s (note: while low-level formatting of the bad-quality devices that speed goes up-and-down a lot). The 2nd image shows the writing of the 35GB file with the same cooling. The source was an NVMe disk with read-speed around 2000 MB/s, and the write-speed for the first 20GB was about 600 MB/s, however later it dropped to 445 MB/s, what means this SSD has a kind of high-speed input buffer for speeding-up relatively small files. The 3rd image shows the copying of 25GB file from a relatively slow source SSD with 550 MB/s reading speed and without any cooling. As you can see it got overheated pretty quickly followed by significant falling of the writing speed. Having found that I turned the cooling on again, and the writing resumed at the original rate (and was pretty much stable). After observing those results, I purchased the second device and also got the same good results, considering that SSD really solid.

This is a pretty impressive Drive!
This SP Thumb Drive was delivered today. The USBA Cover is slightly odd. Based on my other Thumb drives.It’s a USB3 drive and it took 15 minutes to transfer 166GB. That was pretty Impressive. I would Definitely recommend this Drive. I may just purchase again.

Review title says it all. Too bad a USB device used to store games is specially encrypted, and can’t be used to store game saves, video or pictures. This also prevents making a backup of the drive using a desktop pc.

good SSD so far
It’s a good SSD, doesn’t seem to get hot and has the form factor of a flash drive. Dinged a star due to a small issue, the cover is very stiff and really doesn’t want to stay open, and can and will put stress on the port/back it out of the port. Future iterations of this drive should have a hinge there rather than a rubber flap, or consider a classic cap design. Also, you’ll need to put this into it’s own USB port, or a powered USB hub. Not a flaw of the product itself, simply a side effect of SSDs needing more power to operate than a nonpowered USB hub is likely to provide. Just something to take into account.

So far so good. I was able to transfer data pretty fast. It is also one of the cheapest drive out there for 1Tb storage. It is the size of a regular USB drive. I donât know how long it will last though. Only time will tell.

Performs well
The SSD passed validation with Validrive, and I benchmarked it using CrystalDiskMark. It met the advertised sequential read speeds of 1050MB/s, scoring 1041.58MB/s, and even surpassed the advertised write speeds of 850MB/s, scoring 926.81MB/s with a 1GB test file. Complete test results are included as an image. I also created a 20GB test folder filled with 330MB files for a real-world sustained test. Initially, it performed at benchmark speeds but quickly ran out of cache, causing speeds to drop to a steady 250MB/s for the remainder of the transfer. The transfer speed is fast while the cache is empty, but slows down once the cache is filled. This only applies to transfers larger than the cache size, so smaller transfers will complete at the advertised speed, while larger transfers will mainly be at 250MB/s. This behavior is typical for SSDs. I estimate the cache to be approximately 1GB, and I would have preferred a larger cache size relative to the total capacity. For reference, the 990 Pro SSDs I use in my systems have a 114GB cache for 1TB models and a 226GB cache for 2TB models, compared to a 1GB cache for 256GB total storage. (This isn’t a completely fair comparison, as those drives cost $120/TB, but I still feel that a 1GB cache is a bit small.) This drive is best for short bursts under 1GB. Even with this shortcoming, relative to the competition, I think the performance per dollar is still better, due to the drive’s aggressive pricing. For example, competitor drives at the same price offer half the capacity and max write speed, and even factoring in the small cache, only perform about 20% better on sustained writes.Accurate size specifications were not listed, so I contacted the manufacturer to get these details and suggested they be included in the listing. The size is 71.3 x 21.3 x 10.4mm (LxWxH), as provided by the manufacturer.This SSD remained in a very comfortable temperature range throughout my benchmarking and real-world testing, staying below 30°C at all times. This is more important than most realize, as many of these small USB-sized external SSDs tend to run extremely hot, to the point of burning you or melting themselves if they have a plastic housing.The rubber flip top feels stiff and durable. It is open on one side (pictured), but that still provides adequate protection in my opinion. You may encounter small fit issues, as bending it to the side may obstruct a neighboring USB port, requiring you to swap slots (pictured).I found the provided USB A to C adapter fine but not impressive. It is quite large, and there is no clean way to bundle it with the drive for carrying. Silicon Power does sell the DS72, a dual-sided drive with both USB A and C, which is a much better solution for those who need to regularly use both USB types. Stock was very limited at the time of my purchase, and for the same specs, the price was over 150% higher just for the extra connector. My use case involves very little USB C, so this drive is fine for me.Keep in mind that this is not a long-term review. I have not owned the drive long enough to assess its longevity.

TLDR: price & form factor 5 out of 5.Performance: 4 out of 5.Good back up/2nd drive to a primary drive. Awesome side/form factor makes up for lack of speed.I make youtube videos. So I’ve got a lot of data to move. I paid 60 bucks for a 1tb SSD in the form factor of a flash drive. I drag and dropped 500GB of files. Read and write speeds was about 250MB/s for 50GB then the drive started to warm up and slowed to 160MB/s for the rest of 500GB. Not amazing but not terrible. I wouldn’t use this as my only drive but a great travel/work 2nd drive, off sight back up (throw this drive into your checked bag and your primary a carry on or something).I’ll be using it an a 3rd back up for my family photos, videos and such to leave in my locker at work.
