Terrific Bang For The Buck!
I’m glad I pulled the trigger on this little 2TB Bad Boy. It’s super-fast and just works. Depending on your use, you may get different results. First, don’t pay any attention to the speed specs of any stick or SSD drives. They all base their exaggerated speed claims on best-case scenarios. That being said, I use mine for storage and playing movie files on my Samsung Smart TV as I no longer use disc drives. It plays a full 2-hour to 3-hour movie without getting very hot and without a hiccup. When transferring movie files to it, I regularly got 200 to 300 MB/s write transfer speed (my Samsung T-5 and T-7 SSD drives write at 30 to 35 GB/s). If I transferred 200 to 500 GB at a time, it would get very hot by the time it wrote 150 GB’s or so. If I blew air on it while it was writing, it cooled down considerably. And after a hundred GB or so and hot temp, it would slow down to around 80MB/s speed for a while but pick back up in speed, especially if I blew air on it to cool it down. So, I would recommend transferring about 100GB at a time instead of half a TB at a time. But either way will work fine. Don’t let the hot temp bother you. It’s designed to operate at the extreme temp. My Patriot 500GB and 1-TB sticks gets super-hot as well and they have never failed me. So, this is not abnormal. I also love the USB “C” connection it has on one end. Now I can finally make use of my “C” connection on my laptop and keep the other 2 USB-3 ports open. I use this Transcend stick to play movie files and my Samsung 2TB T-7 as the backup SSD drive for my movie files. But the Samsung SSD movie file transfer speed is only about 35 GB/s while this Transcend stick writes movie files at 200 to 300GB/s. So, I’m definitely going to get another one of these Transcend 2TB sticks. The hot temps and occasional slow-downs are really not a big deal when you consider the small size, convenience and extreme speed of this stick. And the end caps fit on snug. No issue there. If you’ve been thinking about this little gem, just get it. You’ll be glad and impressed.

Very good but usb c plug in area is too wide
Very good drive, great speed. My only issue is that if you plug into the USB C port on a MacBook the buffer area around the USB C plug on the flash drive is too wide to allow anything else to fit into the other USB C port on the MacBook. In other words if the end of the flash drive was a bit skinnier it would be a much better product. I still kept it however because it’s the smallest fastest most portable 2G I could find.

Fast drive as long as you stay under 85GB
This is a review of the Transcend ESD310C, 1TB portable SSD.Size-wise, its 2.5″ from end to end, including the USB connectors. It’s the size of a typical flash drive from the mid 2000’s.This flash drive has a Silicon Motion’s SM2320 controller paired with Kioxia’s BiCS5 112 layer 3D TLC NAND.It has a fast ~85GB SLC cache, and the rest goes in slow TLC.Transcend claims “up to” 1050 MB/s read, 950 MB/s write.In a 64GB r/w test, I was able to hit 1027 MB/s read, 911 MB/s write.(-1 star) There is a roughly ~85GB SLC cache on the drive. The “up to 950 MB/s” write is only guaranteed during that portion. As soon as that SLC cache is filled, the drive drop down ~60 MB/s writes (USB 2.0 speeds).Also, the firmware of the drive imposes a hard temp limit of ~60C, and throttles speeds in order to keep it under that limit. So regardless of how much data you’ve written to the drive, the performance will plummet as soon as it hits the 60C limit. Some of their competitors have no arbitrary temp limit, which allows the drive to write faster for longer. I did not hit 60C during my 64GB write test, but if you write 100’s of GB continuously, you are more likely to run into this.(-1 star) The USB connectors on each end of the drive are not symmetrical to the body. Meaning the cap should be inserted in the correct orientation to be flush with the body. Another reviewer pointed this out. I think the design should be improved to make it symmetrical, so the cap can be inserted in any orientation.I still think this is a good drive for what it offers. It’s small and light weight, offering both a USB-C and USB-A connectors for flexibility. 5 year warranty. However, I think Transcend should be more transparent with the drive’s limitations and show them in the listing, instead of using vague “up to” wording for speeds.
