Replaced 30yr old Nutone intercom
Our 30 year old audio only Nutone intercom finally died. So saw this wired Video intercom figured I just use the old six conductor wiring from the Nutone. Soldered the provided wiring harness to the old 6 conductor wire – although you could use wire nuts too. Having the color video is a real bonus our apartment is on the second floor with a stairway down to the entrance door on the ground floor. So now its easy to see our visitors. The operation is simple and straight foreword. No pesky apps, WiFi setups or accounts to deal with. The wide angle color video quality is decent enough in the day time but switches to a slightly grainy black and white picture at night. Over all we are pleased with this simple video intercom system it was a great replacement for our old one.

Update:I got this installed and noticed that after a few seconds the screen just shuts off. I’m not able to get the screen to stay on full time so I can see the activity at my front door. I also have not found out how to record or if this records as there was no instructions with this at all on how to wire or even use. I had to figure everything out on my own. Now the screen comes on when the doorbell is rung but that’s it. I can talk through this and the person on the other end can talk also. The volume can be adjusted. The screen doesn’t sit on the bracket that well either. There are 4 clips on the bracket that the screen slides down on but because the wires and how flat the bracket is the screen only sits down on one clip leaving the screen tilted to the side a little bit. One last thing. I noticed that each time the doorbell is rang it rings on both ends not just inside the house which is strange to me but I guess it allows the person to know they rang it and it’s working. Right now I’m just frustrated that there was no instructions with this and I’m sure this don’t record which was the sole purpose as to why I wanted it. And yes the screen is blurry just like what you see in my picture. I thought it would be more clear. It’s definitely not 1080 HD. The resolution is more like 720.No directions to guide me through the installation process. Luckily for me though I work industrial maintenance so I’m able to figure out things like this but for others you may find it complicated. What I can tell you is on the back of the monitor and video doorbell there is a sticker explaining the color code of the wiring and explaining what is what. There is a way to wire this to an existing door bell system and then there is a white cord that can be connected directly from the video doorbell to the monitor. I find that easiest since I don’t have an existing doorbell wired. All you would have toDo is drill a hole where this would be located. Place the video doorbell beside the door and from there a hole can be drilled and then the monitor can be mounted on the backside of that wall.Now as far as the monitor goes it does have a pretty good picture. It doesn’t seem to be 1080 HD but it’s pretty clear. The brightness and color definition can be adjusted on the side of the screen. The doorbell ringer has many different tones and is pretty loud. When rung there should be no problem at hearing it. I have t tried talking through this yet because all I have done is hooked it together to try most of the modes out. I haven’t installed this yet to be used. This has a memory card slot on the side of the monitor also soThat videos can be saved.I do find this to be a really nice video doorbell that has its place. With this day and age this is a great way to keep on eye on what’s going on outside of your home and to also see who is coming and going.
