Works well as a computer monitor
I wanted to add a review for using this as a computer monitor in case others were thinking of the same.
The unit is very bright. I don’t have to close my windows if I’m looking at high contrast things like text. Color isn’t maybe as good as more expensive projectors, but I found it to be fine. I found that using 1080p resolution for desktop use was better than 4k as the pixels are a bit fuzzy at that resolution which makes text not look as good. This is due to the pixel shifting tech used (any 4k projector sub $1600-2000 will use this). The screen is very detailed at 4k showing movies and games, however, and the pixel shifting kind of adds a bit of an anti-aliasing effect. I dare say I might actually prefer a pixel shifting projector for computer use as it lets you decide between 4k 60hz and 240hz 1080p with both modes having their own strengths. I feel I have two monitors I like for different reasons which is cool. There is just a slight perceptible lag on 4k, but its really not bad. I don’t notice any at 1080p 240hz. And it really does go that high, the difference between 120 and 240hz is noticeable, and it looks really good at the high refresh rate. I actually prefer it over my 144hz 1440p monitor. I don’t think this would be good enough for esports compared to a 240hz monitor, but its very close. Remember to use the game mode.
Overall it works better than I expected as a computer monitor and I’m happy with it and feel it was a good value for the money.
Other thoughts
-I wish the power plug was longer. I’m not going to install this in ceiling, and I had to use an extension cord for it to reach down to a plug that is only a few feet horizontally away.
-The remote is a bit old fashioned looking. Not a big deal to me but I think ViewSonic should update the design.
-Sometimes the unit makes a strange whirling sound that is annoying. Usually it doesn’t and it has done it less as I have used it. Its not the fan, it sounds like something is spinning that is not lubricated. When this isn’t happening I found the fan noise to be fairly low and constant.
-Its very easy to switch between modes like normal and eco, needing only one button to be hit. This is really nice since the bulb has a lifespan. If I know I’m going to step away from the computer for a few minutes or am going to just be looking at text I can switch it to super eco in two seconds.
-SuperEco at 240hz flickers, changing to a different refresh rate fixes this.
Some tips:
-Dynamic Eco is basically as good as normal in terms of color and brightness at least when its showing a bright image. That’s my main setting. I think it just dims when the screen is dark. It is better than eco (but not super eco) in terms of bulb life according to the manual.
-Make sure your resolution is 1920 by 1080 if you want 240hz. If its 1920 by 1200 if will default to 120hz.
-if the projector is located above you, make sure you turn the projector upside down. It will need next to no keystone correction that way which keeps the image at native.

Yes, The Px701-4K Does Support 3D!
First things first, because there is no mention anywhere of 3D support in the specs or product description there are a lot of comments out there stating that the PX701-4K isnât capable of 3D. This is incorrect. It does in fact support 3D and it looks great! The older versions that were initially shipped did not support 3D. However, since then ViewSonic has made the necessary hardware & firmware upgrades to correct this. Now that the 3D speculation is out of the way let me talk about the projector. Itâs a great 4K projector considering the price tag. True, itâs not native 4K but it does produce 3840×2160 pixels when inputting a 4K signal into the projector. The projector does this. by whatâs called âPixel Shifting â. This is done to expand the native 1080p resolution to produce an effective 4K image on the screen. So, basically, youâre still getting 4K resolution without the much higher price tag you would pay for a native 4K projector. When you play 4K content the projector also displays 3840×2160 on itâs display on the screen. Another nice thing is that it supports HDR & HLG. However, it does not support Dolby Vision which is not a dealbreaker for me. The 3200 ANSI lumens produce a nice bright and vivid picture. I also really like the auto keystone feature. I have the projector sitting on a coffee table which is much lower than my screen and I didnât have to adjust anything. The projector automatically adjusted the image perfectly. The fan is pretty quiet as well and If you have a surround system you wonât hear it at all. I havenât tried gaming on it yet but if the specs are correct this should be great for gaming too! Overall Iâm satisfied with the projector.

PX-701-4K Review: Excellent picture but the first one was defective
This would have been a 5 Stars projector if the first one I received was not defective.
I was really impressed with the picture quality of this projector once I got it working. Which makes it a worthy replacement of my previous Mitsubishi DLP HD projector.
Unfortunately, it was clear that I received a defective unit !!!!!!!!! This was clear to me within minutes of plugging in a 4K Apple TV unit as the source. I immediately heard a loud grinding sound. stopped everything unplugged everything and restarted… The same grinding started again. It was so loud and actually louder than my coffee beans grinder-No kidding!
I removed the HDMI and connected a brand new 4K Apple TV that I had intended for this projector. It seemed to work fine and allowed me to adjust the image to my taste. A lot of control over color, picture quality. Overall excellent picture quality in 4k bright and detailed.
On the first unit that was defective, there was somewhat a loud flickering sound -similar to an old 16mm projector running a film that was not as loud as the grinding sound I experienced with the first Apple TV I connected. It seemed really strange. When I pause the show, the sound stops, when I resume playing the show, the sound returns. I had to send it back and repurchase it again. I will update this review once I receive the replacement.

I received my PX-701 4K replacement! Very quiet fan which confirmed that the first one I received was defective! Stunning picture quality on a good quality 100″ screen ! I attached several photos from Apple TV as the source with 100″ electric motorized screen by Elite Screens
I do recommend this projector! It is a bargain for a 4K projector under $1000.
***Update 12/28/2022. I’m truly in love with this projector, specially after testing 5 different projectors from different brands. In that $900 range, I haven’t seen a single 4K capable projector that comes even close to this 3200 lumens brightness and picture quality. I highly recommend it!

Esta es mi triste aventura. El dia 1o de Julio del presente año 2022 decidi comprar este proyector, el cual aunque no es de la gama mas alta de 4k no obstante tampoco es nada barato, me daba un poco de aprehensión comprar algo tan caro por la red, pero pense ¿que puede pasar? es amazon!! la garantia de “la A la Z” etc. Despues unos 3 o 4 dias por fin lo recibi, venia en su caja 4k, se veia “nuevo” aunque le note algo de polvo y unas manchas de manipulación, asi como que traia cinta con el logo de viewsonic pero normalmente no vienen asi (ya que he tenido proyectores de esta marca en el pasado), lo saque, lo puse a funcionar….se veia excelente….pero….mi “dongle” (un Nvidia shield pro) me indicaba que no podia dar mas alla de 1080p, jamas 4K…pero pense ingenuamente que era algo de configuración, unos dias despues me sente tranquilamente a resolver ese “problema”…y despues de picarle aqui y alla….finalmente di con el clavo…..el problema no era mi Nvidia ….era el proyector!!!! NO ERA 4K ERA UN SIMPLE HD, un viewsonic pero de modelo anterior de 1080p. Al parecer alguien o en almacen de amazon o con quien sea que fuese el vendedor sustituyo el 4K con el 1080p los cuales practicamente son identicos!!! excepto por un logo que dice 4K en la parte superior y una calcomania con el modelo en la parte inferior, de ahi en mas la caja que me enviaron decia 4K, los instructivos,etc. Y quien no conoce el modelo facilmente puede confundirse, de inmediato al percatarme de ello solicite la devolución el dia 12, arribando a las instalaciones de amazon el dia 14, desde donde ha permanecido ahi sin ninguna novedad, incluso en la pagina de amazon aparece “El reembolso se procesará cuando recibamos el artÃculo.” y desde ahi no se ha movido. He contactado a “servicio al cliente”, los cuales me confirman que ya fue recibido pero que “aun esta en proceso de revisión”, hoy estamos a dia 20 de Julio (final del dia) y nada….cabe señalar que en servicio a cliente les señale que mi interes no es tanto el reembolso si no el proyector 4k, a lo cual se me dijo que no era posible por ser el envio de “amazon estados unidos” a México….(¿No son acaso la misma empresa?). Y simplemente que me tengo que esperar. ¿Hasta cuando?, quien sabe, porque aunque dicen que de 3 a 5 dias habiles para procesar esos dias ya se cumplieron. Asi que moraleja, mejor compren cosas de mas costo en persona, y dejen a esta plataforma para cosas “chachareras” o asegurense de tener una buena politica de devoluciones, yo mientras seguire esperando unos dias mas y si no pues tendre que escalarlo con mi banco por una devolución no recibida a pesar de que ellos ya recibieron el producto que compre de buena fe, pero me dieron “gato por liebre”.
Actualización 22 de Julio: Contacte de nuevoooo a servicio al cliente el dÃa de ayer, los cuales me dijeron que tendria que esperar hasta el 26 de Julio para ver si ya se inició la devolución. Hoy 22 de Julio Contacte de nuevo a servicio al cliente donde iniciaron la solicitud de reembolso (ojo “solicitud de reembolso”) donde me dicen que tengo que esperar 72 horas para que se inicie proceso de reembolso. Seguramente son horas hábiles, o sea hasta el Miércoles 27 o Jueves 28 de Julio. (Les creeré?) Asà que a esperar, ya actualizaré está reseña, mientras tanto sigo sin proyector y sin dinero. ‘Garantia de la A a la Z”…hmmmm…..debo también señalar que desde ese dÃa no he comprado ya nada en Amazon debido a que ya me causa desconfianza, lo que antes eran hasta decenas de miles de pesos mensuales y comentarios sobre toda cantidad de productos (casi todos positivos) hoy se han convertido en cero compras. Esperemos que cumplan lo ya prometido varias veces (aunque de antemano poco se puede confiar de quien promete varias veces y no cumple).

Despues de llamadas, etc. finalmente recibi mi reembolso en mi cuenta bancaria, aunque aun me queda el mensaje aqui en el sitio de que “procesaremos el reembolso cuando recibamos el articulo”. Me quede con ganas de comprar este proyector, seguire comprando en amazon, pero solo cosas mas pequeñas para no arriesgar demasiado.
