MediaTek to Add NVIDIA G-Sync Assist to Monitor Scalers, Make G-Sync Shows Extra Accessible

NVIDIA on Tuesday stated that future monitor scalers from MediaTek will help its G-Sync applied sciences. NVIDIA is partnering with MediaTek to combine its full vary of G-Sync applied sciences into future displays with out requiring a standalone G-Sync module, which makes superior gaming options extra accessible throughout a broader vary of shows.

Historically, G-Sync expertise relied on a devoted G-sync module – primarily based on an Altera FPGA – to deal with syncing show refresh charges with the GPU as a way to cut back display tearing, stutter, and enter lag. As a extra primary resolution, in 2019 NVIDIA launched G-Sync Suitable certification and branding, which leveraged the industry-standard VESA AdaptiveSync expertise to deal with variable refresh charges. In lieu of utilizing a devoted module, leveraging AdaptiveSync allowed for cheaper displays, with NVIDIA’s program serving as a stamp of approval that the monitor labored with NVIDIA GPUs and met NVIDIA’s efficiency necessities. Nonetheless, G-Sync Suitable displays nonetheless lack some options that, up to now, require the devoted G-Sync module.

By means of this new partnership with MediaTek, MediaTek will convey help for all of NVIDIA’s G-Sync applied sciences, together with the newest G-Sync Pulsar, immediately into their scalers. G-Sync Pulsar enhances movement readability and reduces ghosting, offering a smoother gaming expertise. Along with variable refresh charges and Pulsar, MediaTek-based G-Sync shows will help such options as variable overdrive, 12-bit shade, Extremely Low Movement Blur, low latency HDR, and Reflex Analyzer. This integration will permit extra displays to help a full vary of G-Sync options with out having to include an costly FPGA.

The primary displays to characteristic full G-Sync help while not having an NVIDIA module embody the AOC Agon Professional AG276QSG2, Acer Predator XB273U F5, and ASUS ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQNR. These displays provide 360Hz refresh charges, 1440p decision, and HDR help.

What stays to be seen is which particular MediaTek’s scalers will help NVIDIA’s G-Sync expertise – or if the corporate goes to implement help into all of their scalers going ahead. It additionally stays to be seen whether or not displays with NVIDIA’s devoted G-Sync modules retain any benefits over shows with MediaTek’s scalers.
