MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio Assessment: Scorching-Clocked Blackwell GB203

MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio Assessment: MSRP $799 The MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio takes NVIDIA’s GB203 GPU and gooses up its clock speeds to enhance efficiency over customary playing cards.

Yesterday, NVIDIA launched the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, not less than because it pertains to playing cards that ought to be priced at MSRP. We evaluated an ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and located it to be a cool, quiet, good performing and simply overclockable graphics card, however one which’s solely marginally sooner than its fast predecessor with conventional rasterization. Consider DLSS 4 with multi-frame era, nonetheless, and efficient framerates far exceed far more highly effective playing cards. We’ll present you precisely what that appears like just a little later.

For now, we’ve acquired one other GeForce RTX 5070 Ti to indicate you, that is a bit greater and burlier, the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio. This MSI card is considered one of 5 RTX 5070 Tis the corporate has coming down the pipeline, and the second highest clocked mannequin behind solely the top-end Vanguard SOC. Let’s dive proper in and have a look…

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Specs

The above desk compares the primary options and specification of the final three “70” class GPUs from NVIDIA. By way of its speeds and feeds, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is an improve over the previous-gen GeForce RTX 4070 Ti in most methods. The GeForce RTX 5070 Ti has extra cores, that are additionally based mostly on a more moderen structure, extra reminiscence with a lot greater bandwidth, extra L1 cache, a bigger register file, an upgraded media engine, a local PCIe Gen 5 interface, and better pixel and texture fill charges, regardless of a considerably decrease increase clock. Just like the older RTX 3070 Ti, a 256-bit reminiscence interface returns, which leads to practically 900GB/s of peak bandwidth, when paired to its speedy 16GB of 28Gbps GDDR7 reminiscence.

We like how the sunshine displays off this unhealthy boy…

The brand new RTX 5070 Ti is constructed across the 45.6 billion transistor GB203 GPU, which additionally powers the RTX 5080. However in contrast to the GeForce RTX 5080, which encompasses a fully-enabled chip, the RTX 5070 Ti is scaled again considerably. The total GB203 options 11 GPCs, 42 TPCs, 84 SMs, and eight 32-bit reminiscence controllers, for an combination 256-bit bus width. Every SM incorporates 128 FP32 CUDA Cores, for a grand complete of 10,752, with 84 4th Gen RT Cores, 336 fifth Gen Tensor Cores, 336 Texture Items, and 112 ROPS. The GB203 additionally features a complete of 10,752 KB L1 cache, a 21,504 KB Register File, and 65,536 KB L2 cache. On the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, nonetheless, solely 6 GPCs, 35 TPCs, and 70 SMs are enabled, which leads to 8,960 complete CUDA cores, 280 Tensor cores, and 70 RT cores. The L1 cache additionally drops down to eight,960KB, with 49,152KB of L2.

The GB203 powering the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is scaled again versus extra highly effective playing cards within the RTX 50 sequence, however its options and capabilities stay the identical. RTX Neural Rendering, RTX Mega Geometry, DLSS 4 with Multi-Body Gen, the brand new AI Administration Processor, and up to date media engine with {hardware} acceleration for 4:2:2 video are all a part of the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti’s function set. You may study all of these options in our earlier NVIDIA Blackwell GPU structure protection, if you have not already learn it.

Examine Out The MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio

Just like the ASUS card we checked out yesterday, MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio is a comparatively chonky graphics card. Although NVIDIA was capable of shrink its flagship GeForce RTX 5090 and the RTX 5080 Founders Version playing cards down right into a two-slot kind issue, companions like MSI are utilizing bigger designs on their RTX 50 sequence playing cards. The MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio, for instance, is 2.7 slots vast and fairly lengthy. Its exact measurements are 13.3 x 5.5 x 2 in (338 x 140 x 50 mm) and it weighs in at virtually 2.9lbs (1.3kg).

The dominant function on the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio – because the Trio suggests – is its massive, triple-fan cooler. The cardboard encompasses a large thin-fin heatsink array, with a number of heat-pipes and a nickel-plated copper baseplate. The baseplate makes direct contact with the GPU and reminiscence, and the heat-pipes are what MSI calls “core pipes”; that principally means the pipes are squared off to maximise contact with the baseplate. The heatsink fins themselves are additionally shaped into curved ‘V’ shapes in a number of sections to optimize air circulation by means of the fins and decrease turbulence, and therefore, decrease noise output. The followers function twin ball bearings for elevated longevity, together with 7, textured fan blades – once more, to maximise air circulation and assist decrease noise. It is also a partial pass-through design, with a piece on the again that extends effectively previous the precise PCB — you’ll be able to see it behind the dragon above. Whether or not or not all the tweaks and customization to the heatsinks and followers are precise enhancements over less complicated designs it troublesome to find out, however in the actual world, the cooler on this MSI card undoubtedly does its job effectively. We’ll get into extra element within the overclocking part just a little later.

Over and above the baseplate that’s affixed to the GPU and reminiscence, a number of thermal pads are used as effectively to make sure extra warmth dissipation for different vital elements on the cardboard that make contact with different parts of the heatsink. A metallic backplate on the cardboard additionally options thermal pads beneath to help in cooling.

The MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio encompasses a twin bios change, with silent and gaming modes, however it solely tweaks the fan curve on the cardboard. With the change in both place, the default GPU increase clock is 2,572MHz, however the fan velocity will ramp as much as 1,230 RPM in silent mode or 1,300 RPM in gaming mode, as soon as the GPU temp creeps into the low 60°C vary. Evidently, that minor enhance in fan velocity has solely a minimal impression on noise ranges. MSI’s knowledge reveals a lower than 2dBa distinction between the 2 modes, which most individuals will not have the ability to discern over noise coming from different followers in a system. We examined the cardboard in efficiency mode all through.

Included with the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio is a primary lit pack, an adjustable GPU help stand, and an influence adapter that turns three 8-pin PCIe energy feeds right into a single 12VHPWR connector. MSI does one thing helpful with its adapter that ought to be recommended, too. The insertion factors are a vibrant yellow, so it’s a lot simpler to see if the connector isn’t totally seated into the GPU.

Outputs on the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio mirror different GeForce RTX 50 sequence playing cards and embody three DisplayPorts (2.1b) and a single HDMI port (2.1b). These ports are nestled into a stainless-steel backplate that options venting, to permit some heat air to flee a system. A number of the warmth pipes that snake although the heatsink are seen simply behind these vents.

And now that you just’re intimately aware of the cardboard, let’s get to the benchmarks…
