    Easiest App for Install
I have never installed something like a thermostat before. I have let this product sit in my cart for the last couple of months while I debated on if I was qualified enough for the daunting task of install. I wish I would’ve just purchased this a LONG time ago. And here is why….THE APP NOT ONLY TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO STEP BY STEP BUT IS INTERACTIVE!! I have NEVER had a product with such a user friendly (such an under rated term here) interface that tells you what to do BASED ON YOUR WIRING!!That’s right. You remove your old thermostat and tell the app which wires you see and it tells you what you need to do based on your specific situation. I will say I was very lucky and had the common wire and did NOT have to install the adaptor to my HVAC system. However, honestly the apps Instillation guide is so intuitive I’m sure that the extra step would have been easy enough. I know it may seem like I am rambling a bit. In this part of the review however, I want everyone to understand that the biggest reason for my hesitation was not the price of the unit but the installation process. I did not want to have to pay an additional fee for someone else to install. If I could possibly do it myself once I receive the product I had it installed within 15 minutes. The Ecobee Smart Thermostat is in itself, a wonderful and intuitive product. The product itself looks very elegant and doesn’t look like your typical hospitals style look. This looks futuristic and modern. I absolutely love how intuitive the sensor is like when you walk by the screen changing to show you a little bit more information. The software seems to know how to show you the right information to. When I want to look at the weather, it gives me just a glance at what is going on outside, which is wonderful and then I can expand it more to look into the future if I choose. The ecobee app is very user-friendly and easy to use as well. Setting up my thermostat through the ecobee app was super easy and quick.PRO TIP: Once the thermostat is installed, you can access the Apple QR code to connect your thermostat to your HomeKit ecosystem. The QR code is not the QR codes on the actual product cards inside the box.I really love the fact that this thermostat helps save on your heating bill by maximizing the heating and cooling of your HVAC system. But I was really impressed when during the install process, the software prompted me to enter my ZIP Code to show me who my local energy supplier was and allowed me to Request a rate decrease with the new install of the smart thermostat.I have not purchased any of the sensors yet, so I cannot contest to that ability of the software. However, I will be purchasing them in the future and will update my review accordingly.

Easy to install and reliable functionality
I have been using Ecobee in my houses for over 5 years, and can’t recoil enough. It is super easy to install, it takes about 15 min to replace the existing thermostat. Once installed the set up is a total breeze, and most importantly, it is very reliable, allowing me to manage it remotely, which is perfect for my Airbnb, or for when I am traveling.

    Ecobee3 Lite Smart Thermostat
Because a local HVAC company installed my heatpump last week, a tech came out to install this thermostat free of charge minus my involvement in completing the installation wirh providing my Internet designation and password. The installation process was seamless and smooth. I can monitor the heatpump functions from anywhete now. I can also see the current temp away from the wall as the digiral temp display is large and stays lit. This thermostat is smart as it calibrated the temp setting we set and AI does the rest by communicating with me. I bought the back plate separately from Amazon (black) and it is very pleasing to look. Its too early to talk about the longevity of the system but it is functioning beautifully at this time. It is fully capable of accommodating one’s individual scheduling but I programm it to have it at constant 72 degrees. This us todays kind of thermostat!

    Love these!!
These installed easily, connected to WiFi smoothly, the display size is great for reading across the room. They are easy to use both at the unit or through the app. I have a two wire boiler system, and with added power transformer this worked great. Great value for the money. I’m already seeing savings after the first month. Hoping to see more as we tweak our comfort settings.

    Great budget smart thermostat
I bought two of these thermostats for my home. Overall I am pleased with the capabilities for the price. The Ecobee3 Lite is designed as a budget entry into the smart thermostat space. I would say in summary that Ecobee has accomplished the critical goals/features well, but it’s pretty clear this is a budget model.Pros:1. Easy installation. I was honestly shocked at how good the instructions are, for a process that could be complicated and very different from one home to the next. Ecobee clearly hired some expert technical writers because as a software engineer myself, I can say it is the best guide for a complex process I’ve ever seen. They also included labels for your wires, and tips at points you might get stuck. They clearly pointed out critical steps. I believe anybody could do the installation as long as their home is compatible. If you aren’t confident you’ll be able to do the installation yourself, but want to try, this is a good model to buy.2. The Alexa integration is good (can get the current room temperature or adjust the thermostat).3. It’s easy to setup your schedules.4. My favorite feature of smart thermostats is being able to set the thermostat to heat if the temp drops below a minimum, or cool if the temp rises above a maximum. Older thermostats required setting a heat or cool mode and required manual intervention to switch to the other mode.5. There are features designed to reduce your energy consumption by adjusting your thermostat for you. One feature will respond to local energy emergencies and automatically adjust your thermostat. It’s optional for those who don’t trust the government.A few limitations:1. Compared to some other (more expensive) smart thermostats on the market, the Ecobee3 Lite looks like a budget thermostat. It doesn’t come off as premium or fancy. This is not a Tesla thermostat, it’s a Nissan Leaf thermostat. If that matters to you, I’d get a different model.2. The screen is backlit and honestly seems a bit low-tech for today’s screens. As you can see in my photo, it’s not very high res, and Ecobee could leverage the available space better: it’s useful when navigating through menus, but the normal display has a lot of empty space. The backlight is quite noticeable at all times, but especially when the light in the room is low, and it looks like a screen from a much older device. However, the touch sensitivity is good and I was able to type my wifi credentials without errors, so I’ll give them that.3. I use SmartThings hub for home automation. This Ecobee unit integrates pretty well with that and delivers most of the expected features. The only thing that doesn’t integrate is the “Comfort Settings,” which are like states (Home, Away, Sleep, etc.). SmartThings has the same concept and by changing the state in SmartThings, I can trigger rules and devices. However, since Ecobee Comfort Settings are not integrated, I cannot simply write a rule that triggers when SmartThings state is changed and then updates the Ecobee Comfort Setting to match. Instead I have to specifically set temperature. This works fine, but means if I want to change the temperature settings of one or more Comfort Settings, I have to edit these rules. I also can’t write rules that trigger based on the Ecobee Comfort Settings, or show the current Comfort Setting on my home control panel. It’s not a deal-breaker, but something to be aware of if you will write home automation rules for your thermostat.4. Both of my Ecobees got confused about the local time zone after initial setup. Even though you provide your location during setup, it seems this location is not used when the device pulls local time, and it defaults to Eastern time. It’s also not very intuitive how to change the time zone setting. You have to login to the web portal because you can only change the time zone setting from there (not the app). It’s a one-time pain, but puzzling how they could miss something so obvious. Hopefully they’ll fix that in a future software patch.

I have standard gas ducted heating that had a very old slide thermostat with basic temp readout. I was lucky that my heater board had a ‘C’ terminal for 24v power, however the unit includes an optional power circuit if yours doesn’t.I originally wanted this just to be able to control the heater through wifi coming home or leaving. This unit also includes scheduling which is a huge bonus for me. The thermostat learns how long it takes to heat the area and starts accordingly based on its current temperature when in schedule mode. I will add some of the room sensors down the track to assist with a cool area of the home. Be aware the lite model doesn’t include a motion sensor as part of the thermostat, so is unaware if you are occupying that particular area or not without the add on sensors. The standard model (most expensive) does include this. This is a great add on product that has assisted heating my home much easier than before.Highly recommended

Bought 2, both arrived in good condition although strangely in different manufacturing origin boxes, although in operation identical.Connected to HomeKit and both work flawlessly. They are connected to a mesh network and each to different access points. Have not had a single drop in 5 months of use.Only 1 speed of operation. But this was known from the specs. Connected to AC only, roof HVAC system.Works well, and plenty of customisation options through the web portal. HomeKit app is basic but functional.Recommended.
