What is Thread, and why is it important to Matter and the smart home?
Thread is a wireless protocol specifically built for IoT devices. It’s designed to make them work faster, have fewer points of failure, use less power, and communicate with each other more seamlessly.
A low-power, low-bandwidth mesh networking protocol that uses the 802.15.4 radio technology, Thread is similar to existing smart home protocols Zigbee and Z-Wave. But unlike them, it doesn’t need a central hub or bridge. Instead, Thread devices can talk directly to each other. By cutting out the middle man, Thread can be faster, especially over large networks.
One of benefits of using Thread devices is that you will have fewer devices using your WIFI network. Also, if one device in your Thread network fails, another device will step up and fill in the roles of the failed device. This is the self-healing feature of Thread.

smart tool to connect your life
I recently tried the Matter Over Thread Smart Plug, and overall, itâs a solid product. Setting it up was simple by scanning the QR code (Red arrow in the video), and it worked seamlessly with Apple Home, Alexa, and Google Home, which made integrating it into my smart home system very convenient. The compact design is a bonusâit doesnât block the other outlet, which is great for small spaces.That said, I did notice a slight delay when using it with Alexa compared to Google Home. Also, the app interface could use a little polish to make it more user-friendly. While itâs not a dealbreaker, itâs something I hope they improve in future updates. Still not ready for primetime
I was an early adopter and bought a four-pack of the “original version” of these (1/4 came completely dead), which I initially had issues with but started working OK, so I installed them in automatic timer only situations.Onvis then released this “updated” version, so I decided to give it a shot for a switch in the bedroom (for the record, Onvis did not reach out to me to give me a discount on the new version for trying their buggy first version). However, today, I just found out that both the original and upgraded versions do not work in a Shared Household on Google Home. If you share these with your partner, your partner will not be able to control them, it will just say “Something went wrong.” Every other device works, including Nanoleaf Matter Over Thread bulbs, so there is nothing wrong with my setup, just more issues for this half-baked product.

Works with Homey pro and Zemismart hubs
I tested this out and it connected with no problems to my Homey Pro hub and Zemismart hub that have thread. I was able to share the device through the matter protocol from the Zemismart hub over to my Home assistant. This is my first thread device so not sure how this device handles building out a mesh network but so far so good it connects to the hub on the other side of an interior wall.

Was confused but works great.
Make sure you hold the on of button for 15 seconds I didnât and sat there waiting like a fool. Anyway after I connected it in the home app everything was well.I thought that it wouldnât let me switch the device on and off from outside the lan but it was me being impatient.Now I have it working I think this device is great I use it on a big 3d printer and makes me feel better that I can cut the power after the print is done.
