Just Works
I purchased this to use with my laptop. It works great for that. Pass-through charging works well as do all the other features. It’s great for only having to plug one thing in and being able to get to work. But, I got the bug and bought a Mac Mini 4. When setting up the Mac Mini I discovered I need a few things, like a USB A port for my mouse/keyboard and equally important an SD card reader. So, I pressed the Plugable hub into service. I didn’t connect the pass-through charging and plugged it into the Mac Mini and everything works great. As a plus, I can now have a 2nd HDMI monitor.I did wind up connecting a 4 port hub/A-B switch so I could connect an external camera, microphone and USB speaker to share these between my old desktop and the Mac mini while I get things setup. The point of this is the rear ports won’t work for this, I had to use the front plug, But everything works great that is running off the Plugable hub.

Solid travel USB hub with everything that’s needed
The build quality of this device is amazing. It feels very solid and has that premium brushed aluminum feel. It’s also fairly heavy for it’s size; it’s definitely heavier than a lot of other portable USB hubs.I was able to drive a 4k @ 60hz monitor for over 12 hours a day and 5 days a week for a few weeks and no issues; so it seems reliable.This hub also works on my iPad mini 6, but I don’t know if it will drive at 4k 60Hz.I’ve confirmed this device can deliver power at least up to 65W. Unfortunately, I don’t have anything that goes beyond that.This hub uses a Realtek gigabit ethernet controller, specifically RTL8153.The charging port is just a charging port. It doesn’t work with USB C devices.Overall this is a great hub for on the go. It pretty much contains everything one needs for traveling/road warriors in a nice package.

Built like a tank, excellent selection of ports
I could hardly believe the build quality when this arrived. Sturdy aluminum case should last forever (though it makes the unit heavier than a cheap plastic case would be). Not too short USB-C cable. Excellent selection of ports. The only thing I might ever need is more USB-C data ports. Was looking for a single USB-C hub to carry with my Chromebook when travelling, as this fits the bill. Previously I have had to carry at least two hubs/card readers. Performs really well, and Plugable looks to support its products (from scanning their website).

This thing is a tank, it’s Linux compatible, and it’s FAST!
I work as a cybersecurity consultant, and I constantly need to plug things in, test things, so on and so forth. I’ve decided to use this particular hub in my incident response kit, and so far? It’s been excellent. It’s plug and play, even with Arch Linux– no driver dramas, nothing malfunctions. The 10gbps USB-C is true to it’s stated speed, and the ethernet plug offers high-speed passthrough.It’s construction is aluminum, and I think I could fling it across the room and it would still work famously. This type of a build is ideal for my high-speed, high-use work situation. Plugable is a great company and continues to deliver high quality gear with this hub.

This Plugable multiport USB-C dock is an interesting device which brings some of the features of your typical USB-C portable dock, adds a solid build quality, but then has some weird design choices. At time of review, with coupon applied, it’s priced at $56 CAD which puts it on comparable pricing with similarly-specced devices, but most of them have dual or triple display options and this has only one. Plugable has built a solid aluminum housing and this thing is deceptively large and heavy for its port selection. All the ports run down one side, which is nice for access, but they’ve then made the inexplicable decision to run the integrated USB-C connector cord out one end, and it has poor strain relief built in. As a result, if used portably, a lot of wear and tear is going to be placed on that cable as it will have to be bent and folded around the dock to be put in a laptop bag. They honestly would have been better to put it on a swivel, run it in parallel down the spine, or just have a USB-C host port and include a detachable Thunderbolt cable. These build decisions are why I’ve knocked off a star.In terms of performance, I had no difficulty with video and it achieved 4k@60hz resolution off the HDMI port without issue. The inclusion of a 10 Gbps USB-C data port with the standard USB-A 3.0 and 2.0 ports is a nice quality of life feature, as are the integrated card readers and Ethernet connection.Power is a bit of an open question. This claims 140W PD charging with 125W host-passthrough, which is unusually high for a dock/hub of this type. I personally could only test to the limits of my laptop, which can accept up the 65W and I’ve no complaints there, but I can’t report on whether the higher wattages are achievable.Overall, this dock offers some benefits versus competitors at this price point as well as some drawbacks. It’s not as portable as I’d like, and the USB-C host cable is a frankly bad design decision, but as a slim desktop hub/dock for connecting a laptop rapidly to one monitor and associated peripherals it would be quite good, especially if you have a laptop (or mini-PC) that lacks for USB ports, Ethernet, or card readers. There’s some good versatility to be had here, and it even works with my Samsung S21 business phone to trigger its Dex (desktop) mode. Plugable is a brand whose products I’ve generally been impressed with, and there’s no doubt about the general quality of this device, but I’d still recommend comparing pricing and features, especially if you want portable use as I really do worry about that USB-C host cable design failing if subjected to strain from repeated tight bending.

It’s not the most conventional usage for this multiport hub, but this fits my current needs perfectly as a result of upgrading from a launch PS5 to a PS5 Pro. One of the small logistical things you don’t really consider with the upgrade is that the Pro still had one standard USB port on the front, as a “legacy nod” to older technologies, such as if you wanted to plug in a HOTAS flight stick, or steering wheel, or even just wanted to plug in a USB memory stick to transfer videos or music back and forth.With the new PlayStation 5 Pro, the legacy USB slots have now been moved to the back of the console, which, if you keep it on a shelf or some other less accessible place, makes it more difficult to access those ports when you need it. There are now two USB C ports at the front of the new console, but this isn’t particularly helpful if you want to plug in your wireless dongle for a guitar to play Rock Band or plug in the microphone as well for some local co-op.While this multiport was intended for use with laptops, it works just as well for people with PS5 Pros who may have a lot of peripherals or other accessories they still want to use and not enough ports to go around. It handles every type of accessory interface you would need in this regard, as well, of course, as working just fine in its intended role as an interface hub for laptops and other smaller electronics.
