Perfect for my newly finished basement
I bought these to install in the basement we just finished. They are mostly to play music during parties and also to hook into the tv if we have parties for the “big game” etc. so the sound can be broadcast though-out the entire basement. We pre-wired three speaker locations to cover the entire 1500 sq ft. These two speakers sound great. You walk from area to are and the sound just carries from one location to the next. The sound is consistent through-out. No loud spots / quiet spots. Turn the sound up loud (I have a high quality Dennon receiver that is probably overkill) and there is no distortion. They were very easy to install. Take the little card board template, draw your circle, drill a pilot hole, and cut it out. (I used a fine tooth saw-zaw blade by hand since we had already painted the ceiling and I didn’t want it to chip/scuff the ceiling, but a jig saw would have probably done fine. Either way is ok, dry wall is easy to saw. On a ladder I used one hand to hold the speaker and the other to easily make the connections. The connecters are easy to work with one hand. I then just inserted into the ceiling, pulled the screw drive our of my pocket (don’t forget to do this or you will be down the ladder with your speaker dangling from wire)… screwed in four screws that snap out and then down the little brackets that hold the speaker snug to the ceiling from inside the ceiling, and inserted the grill (which covers the speaker and the screws). Easy as can be.Another point: circles are easier to install then rectangles. If you are considering buying rectangle speakers, consider how good you are and making things square, plumb, etc. And also consider that even if you are good at it, your drywall installers, even if they worked for a good builder, may not be. So you ceiling and/or wall may not be at right angles to each other. If you install in ceiling close to a wall, or in wall close to a ceiling, you may end up with a speaker that looks crooked one way or another. And even if the walls and ceiling are all straight, it’s still hard to stand on a ladder, measure the how far each corner is to your nearest reference point, set the template etc. With circles, these problems go away. Two quick wiring tips:1. When you do the initial wiring, make sure you leave enough slack so that the wire hangs and least three feet down lower then the ceiling. It makes connecting the wire to the speaker much easier when standing on a ladder to not have to be making the connections over your head. You’d rather have it waist high. So leave enough slack, it easily tucks up into the ceiling when the speaker is installed.2. I mentioned that I wired for three speakers. Since these come in pairs, I wanted to buy a single 3rd speaker instead of buying a second pair and having one left over. I made the mistake of buying the very similar “Polk Audio RC6s” for my third speaker without reading enough of the description or reviews. That speaker probably works fine, but it requires two sets of speaker wire, not one. I of course had one set of wire to each speaker location. This “Polk Audio RC6s” I now find out is both a left and right speaker all in one little package. So it didn’t work for me. I ended up buy and second set of the product we are talking about here, and it now works perfectly. So if you do the same, either run two sets of wire or just buy yourself a second set… The set is not much more money then the single “Polk Audio RC6s” anyway.Polk Audio RC6s In-Ceiling Stereo Speaker (Single, White)

Good Goobledy Goo – Good Stuff
I purchased these moisture resistant speakers for installation in my bathroom – one actually within the shower enclosure. The shower doors do not reach to the ceiling, allowing steam to escape so they should hold up well according to the product description. I am VERY satisfied with their performance. I have them wired up to a Sonos: Amp so that I can listen to news/radio in the morning while showering and getting ready. The sound quality is more than adequate for that purpose and I can adjust the level such that the speaker in the shower is louder than the one outside. The adjustable tweeter cone allows me to direct the sound to the area where needed and I am getting very good stereo separation when standing in between the two speakers.I installed these myself and the install process was very easy. These speakers are not enclosed and the room in which I mounted them has blown fiberglass insulation so after removing the blown insulation around the speaker hole I added a small patch of rolled fiberglass insulation to replace the removed insulation as well as to provide additional bass response.I am not an audiophile but I do listen to a LOT of music and I appreciate good sound. These sound really great to me!The speaker clips are spring loaded and I had no trouble with them. They remained clamped even while I was turning the speaker around in my hand and inserting it into the ceiling hole. Had they unclipped under the strain it would have been really annoying.I had no trouble removing the grill nor re-mounting it. I did not have a paper clip which is what is suggested for removing the grill but I was able to remove it just by alternating my grip around the edges until it came out. The grill is held in place only by tension between the grill metal and the enclosure, no clips so it’s easy to remove but stays in place.

The perfect complement to your H/T system
I’m your average Joe who wants maximum bang for my buck. Stereophonics and the sort are not my strength, researching a purchase is. I got the RC80i’s as the CEILING surrounds (back speakers) for my H/T. Whereas I’ve done the homework in detail, I’ll give you the final poop on my findings. Specs vary only slightly between models in the $100-200/pair range. THE KEY consideration is how your speakers are situated (relative to the listeners), AND, what is the layout of the room of interest. These 2 items alone should drive you out of the “high-end” market since you’ll never be able to discern an audible difference outside an ideal environment.Install was EASY! Threading wires between the floor/ceiling of a 2 story, not so easy. I have an older Sony receiver the supports all the goodies up to 5.1 of which I’m only using 5. (My Realistic fronts have 15″ bass cones. If repairing cracks in my walls/ceiling was fun, I’d introduce a woofer). The center is a Polk CSi-A4.On first use I thought the RC80i’s were substandard. Couldn’t hear much from them. Patience was a vertue. Ten minutes into our 1st movie we realized that they’re only involved when THAT CHANNEL has been programmed within the movie. When they are used, the listener is engulfed in sound and the RC80i’s complement the process. Remember that surround speakers are “complementary” to the TOTAL sound, (birds, motorcycle, dogs, ecco effect, ect.) not the equivalent of the center and front speakers, that’s not their role. You can (should) buy these with no hesitations. 69 high reviews should not be overlooked. If I spent less, I most likely wouldn’t have enjoyed the quality I’m getting. If I spent more, I’d probably kick myself for unnecessarily wasting dollars. Great value. Excellent sound. Benefit from my research.

Have a pair of these plugged into a Sonos zone player. The sound quality is very good, without being spectacular. For the price point, I would say they represent good value for money. Plenty of bass and generally, the range is very good.Had them installed by a professional. It looked straightforward and they blend into a white ceiling very well. One consideration on placement – unless you have a lot of insulation, they can be quite audible in the room above, so if you do have some flexibility as to placement try to put under a hall, cupboard, bathroom etc.
