Pleasantly Surprised
I bought this for about $50 to give to my brother for Christmas, and I have been pleasantly surprised.I have owned a cheap remote-controlled LED strip that cost like $15 which I put on the back of my bedroom TV, and haven’t been too happy with it. The remote didn’t work very well (have to go walk to point the remote behind the TV for it to register) and it was very short (5′ maybe?). On top of that, it would reset the color/mode every time it turned off since it was plugged into the TV. So, it basically stays unplugged until I think about it really want to turn it on.I wanted to get one for my brother’s gaming PC (or he could use behind TV like me), so I decided to step it up a bit and get a smart wifi-connected one. The difference is night and day. Here are some of the notes/highlights:* Compared to other smart LED strips in the price range (especially Apple Homekit ones), this one is the longest and best bang-for-you-buck* This is 30+ feet, but is actually two separate LED strips (each 16′ I think) that are connected to one controller with one power cord.* My brother has an Android phone, and setting it up was fast* The controls in the app are easy. You can tap the icon just like a smart-plug/light to turn it on/off, and it will remember what color/brightness you last set it to. Click the pencil to get the more detailed view. From here, the power button in the center turns it on/off. You can change the color by rotating the color wheel around the power button, and change the brightness by rotating the outer wheel.* The individual LED’s are not individually addressable (understandable at this price for the length). Same goes for each strip. The app has one control and configures both to the same color/brightness (see my suggestion/improvement section below)* You can set timed routines within the app, or connect it to Alexa/Google/Apple for voice control, automation, etc. Worked with my brother to setup a routine that turned the color to a purple at night and a light blue during the day* I got this so he could use in the PC or behind TV/monitor, but with his desk setup everything is close by, and since it comes with two strips he can use it for bothAll-in-all I think it’s much better than the remote-controlled strip, and even though it’s $50, it’s better-priced than others out there for the features/length. I am quite happy with it.I do have a few notes/recommendations for future support that would make it even better:* Although it has two LED strips there is only one control option in the app. This means that they are both controlled together and cannot be set to different colors or brightness individually. It’s possible this could be as simple as an update to the app to allow each LED strip to be controlled independently. If it’s a change needed at the microcontroller level, it’s wifi-connected and could be future firmware update that could fix this. Either way, I think this would be a prime target for adding a feature that would take little effort and increase the value of what people are getting. In my brother’s example, this would allow him to have a different color set for his PC and the TV bias lighting.* There are currently no modes to select like pulse/strobe/etc. Not a killer for me, but what I find funny is that the LED strips auto-rotate colors during setup, meaning it already has at least that functionality programmed in, just only for the setup process. This could be another low-effort addon to the app settings since it’s already there.

Works great, can’t beat the price.
The first photo is at ~10% brightness without any other lights on, the second is 100% brightness with obviously the two pendant lights and the third is at 100% brightness with just the overhead lights on. Of course there are many color options to choose from but this is just to give an idea of the lighting affect you can get if installing as overhead cabinet lighting. Installation was incredibly easy given I had an outlet, in the nook above the stove, just needed to drill a hole through the top, didn’t have to actually adhere the light down just laid it flat. This kit doesn’t come with any angled connectors though, so I bought a separate kit from amazon for ~15 bucks.App integration with HomeKit imo is fantastic, especially for this price point. More over, most apple home kit devices require you to install a bridge at the router, this one does not which imo is the way to go.This is something imo the “everyman” or women can do. The ONLY word of caution I would advise is that if cutting to custom lengths make sure you do cuts where you see the COPPER connectors, NOT the silver connecters as those seem to have dollops of solder on them which will not slide under tape light connectors.

After second time i”ve paired them with Homekit and Meross app they do not pair anymore so i’m stuck with color red

Installation of the led strip was straightforward, as was pairing. As usual with Meross products, ensure you don’t have a 5gHz wifi bonded onto the 2.4gHz ID as many ISP supplied routers do these days as you may get problems.Initially when I installed the kit (using homekit) I noticed several issues with colours not syncing correctly and when telling the strip to turn off, it would leave the WW and W on very dimly if certain colours were selected. This led to quite a bit of frustration when a firmware update was not available for it on the Meross app.However coming back to it this morning and looking on the meross app once again, there was a firmware update showing which was a breeze to install. This has since fixed any bugs within homekit, save for the slightly janky colour wheels which have always been a minor niggle.Lastly, whilst the mains transformer comes with a good length of cable, the tails on the interface box are very short and could have done with being twice, if not three times longer as it makes it awkward to hide out the way so close to the end of the strip.Will definitely buy more in the future, but some caveats to note, hence the 4 Stars.I’ll endeavour to update on the longevity of the tape attached to the chipboard rebated underside of a worktop.

For the money not much to complain although:App is horrible for example party mode does. I thing yet relax mode flashes like crazy !App is build in a very bad way and I find home app much better to use , creators could improve itBrightness not great looks good when other lights are off as you can see in pictureAdhesion is a nightmare!!! Weak and be carful with ikea furniture might go off with varnish even it’s so weakNow about connectors and bending , strip is not very flexible only few spots you actually bend it if you want get connectors you will need 12mm 6 pin not the traditional 4 pin something to be aware ofOnly 5 support holders and I’m wondering why 5 not at least 6??? No ideaSetup is quite easy and you don’t need Meross app for it , plug it in scan code add setup , doneOverall not bad for the price I will update after few months to tell you guys more about itCompare to other brands like govee unfortunately this one get low score from me but unfortunately it’s the only one for reasonable money to work with home kitIf you don’t have ocd like me and you happy with what you see get it but I will consider buying something more expensive with better brightness and more options to set up.Hope this helps thanks
