Do I need to apply primer before applying whiteboard paint?
A primer helps give a surface a smooth finish and acts to ‘seal’ a surface. This means that when you apply Smart Whiteboard Paint on a surface that has been primed, your whiteboard paint will stay on the wall instead of being absorbed into the surface. Using a water-based primer like Smart White Primer means you will get a smoother surface with optimum write-on-wipe-off functionality.
Can I apply Whiteboard Paint to any surface?
Apply Smart Whiteboard Paint to almost any smooth surface (glass, metal, concrete, wood, etc.). When applying Smart Wall Paint in White to any surface it is essential to prime the surface first. Then simply apply your single coat of whiteboard paint.
Can Smart Wall Paint be applied around people?
Yes, it is completely safe to apply dry erase paint around adults and children as it is certified as an extremely low VOC and low odour product. Learn more about the low VOC levels of our specialist coatings here. Smart Whiteboard Paint does not contain any isocyanates which means it is extremely safe to use around people also.
Are there different colors of dry erase board paint available?

How to Apply the Whiteboard Paint White – Part 1
Step 1: MEASURE YOUR AREA
Measure the area accurately ensuring you have enough paintDo not ‘stretch’ the paint as it is formulated to give a whiteboard finish only over the recommended area
Step 2: PREPARE THE SURFACE
Cover and protect the area around the surface you wish to paintCheck and fill any holes or cracks in the surface with a decorator’s fillerUse the sanding block in your kit to smooth the filled surfacePrime any areas where filler was used
Step 3: PRIME THE SURFACE
Apply 2 coats (3 for fresh plaster) of water-based White Primer
Use any roller or brush to apply the water-based PrimerStir primer or sealer thoroughly before useDrying time takes 2-4 hours between coats and 12 hours after the final coat has been applied
Step 4: APPLICATION EQUIPMENT
Smart Whiteboard Paint must be applied with a new roller (provided in the kit), brush and tray. Any contact with water or solvent will cause a reaction with the paint affecting its performance.
How to Apply the Whiteboard Paint White – Part 2
Step 5: MIX AND STIR
Pour all Part As into Part BApply within one hour of mixing, using the roller sleeve in your kitOnce mixed, the paint must be applied in one hour
Step 6: APPLY WHITEBOARD PAINT
It must be applied in 1 metre sections with a new brushPass the roller over the entire surface 10 times to ensure a generous, smooth and even coating Once the first one metre section is complete and has been inspected, move to the second section and repeat
Step 7: DRYING TIME
The Smart Whiteboard Paint will become touch dry in 5 hours and will be ready to use as a whiteboard in 4 days.
Step 8: ENJOY YOUR NEW WHITEBOARD
The performance (erasability) of Smart Whiteboard Paint will continue to improve over the first 30 daysWe recommend cleaning the surface daily until day seven

ORIGINAL REVIEW: The can was only half full. Painters have done their best but it only covered a fraction of the promised area – and we bought the larger kit. Not clear what we do now. Would advise against this product given the massive price.Update: the company are in touch and are making efforts to understand what might have gone wrong here.Update 2: apparently we used an OIL BASED primer instead of WATER based. So maybe our bad. Need to go check the manual and see if that was highlighted…(At this point I revised my review to 3 stars)UPDATE 3: Having looked at the leaflet, box, their website, and the Amazon content, it is clear that the oil Vs water point was inadequately communicated, and jumbled up with attempts to promote their own primer paint.Having paid for the whiteboard paint, and for painters to apply it following the leaflet, I now have a messed up wall. Company are offering another can plus their own primer which is a start, but have no suggestions about who will strip, sand, and repaint the wall.I am kinda grumpy about this. If you are psychic and accidentally use compatible primer your experience may be awesome. The product is potentially great, I love the idea. But here I am with a room whose wall whose top 2/3 I am told can’t be relied on to be a whiteboard because it was painted on the wrong base, and whose lower 1/3 is unfinished. I wasn’t expecting to be swapping emails with the paint company weeks later on whether it is reasonable to expect our painters to have studied every section of the Amazon listing instead of working from the materials in the box.
