Outstanding Storage Device!!!
Its difficult these days to find solid products, this is one of them, data rate confirmed, didnt quite get to 1000mbps but they say thats max rating, hit 960mbps which is the best ive seen for a usbc 3.2 gen2 SSD. Love the solid build and the heat dissipation is effective through the metal housing, they warn that they get hot…. THEY GET HOT! So careful after a heavy transfer. The quality of this manufacturer is superfluous, so much so that i am converting my personal office and work offices with any applicable SSK products.

Quick ssd, good size, slightly under stated storage.
This device is a nice, small portable drive. Size wise, it’s the length and width of about 4 or 5 US quarters in a row. it comes with a small leatherette(plastic leather) carrying case that can be put on a keychain. Technically, this drive is smaller than advertised by a little bit, coming in at 476GB after formatting.Now onto testing the performance.First a caveat: I do not have gen 2 usb, so I can not test the full speed of this drive. I cap at the usb 3.2 gen 1 speeds. That said, this drive likely goes the stated speeds, The speeds I recorded from both the USB A and USB C side of this device maxed at around 500 MB/s, which is the max speed for the usb spec, not the speed. This is plenty quick for external storage. I’ve provided the performance results, as well as a comparison chart. This drive came in at about the speed of a good sata ssd through usb 3.2 gen 1.

Fast speed cool metal body but heavy weight for a usb drive.
I bought an SSK 512GB 1000MB/s and a Kingston USB-C 256GB. The SSK is a little faster and cooler (43°C vs 66°C) but three times heavier than the Kingston. The Kingston has a 2mm shorter USB-C end than the SSK and a body that is too wide, causing it to collide with another USB-C port next to it, making it impossible to charge through USB-C simultaneously.

Astonishing Write-Speed Failure
I bought three of these drives about a month ago, and have been running them hard. Currently, all three drives are now clocking in at 10-15% of the original write speed–and itâs not due to hitting the thermal overload protections built into the drives. I just specâed them again, using a cold 2019 MacBook Pro (USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 ports) and cold drives.No! Despite the massive claims made about these drives, they lose write-speed very fast. Yes, new out-of-the-box, all three clocked at 1Gps R/W. Pretty impressive. Configured as a three-disk RAID0, the virtual 1.5TB originally clocked as high as 3.4Gps R/W. Thatâs as fast as the OEM internal drive in the MacBook Pro. In theory, then, four of these SSK drives should be able to be plugged into any recent MacBook and be able to write a full disk backup faster than the internal disk can read the data. For ~$200. Good deal!In actuality:–Two of these SSK drives will NOT mount side-by-side on a MacBook Pro! Too wide. This is NOT noted in the product documentation. I strongly suspect that they wonât mount side-by-side on any typical set of laptop USB-C ports.–They run very hot, and the case is designed to be a thermal radiator, so you really canât operate two of them in near proximity anyway. Mounted on a typical USB-C hub, the thermal transfer quickly heats up the up. Two of these mounted on my uGreen hub, for example, WITH AN OPEN PORT SEPARATING THEM, quickly make the hub hot to the touch.–These are CLEARLY marketed as SSDâs, not backup drives. They do work great, when new, for doing a fast full backup of a 1TB internal drive, when ganged. To be fair, for the price, theyâre only a little overpriced for that role. (Yes, Iâm aware that a RAID0 disk is not appropriate for normal backup use, but this was just testing.)
