Vine Thermostat Trouble Shooting

Why isn’t my heating/cooling turning on?

• Ensure the thermostat is wired correctly by following the instructions in the User Manual

― You can also try to reinstall your original thermostat to make sure there is not an HVAC system issue, that is preventing the system from turning on. If your heating/cooling doesn’t come on with the original thermostat, you may need to contact a professional technician to service your equipment.

• Secure wire connections.

― If you attempt to pull a wire, it ought to remain firmly in place and not be dislodged. Make sure the wire is all the way down and seated in the thermostat terminals. If you aren’t sure, push the paddle down and pull the wire out. Then, try to push it back into the terminal for a better fit.

• Ensure that there is power to your HVAC system and there is no error code on your control board indicating a system issue.

― If there is an error code or no power to your system, contact an HVAC professional to service your equipment.

• Reset breakers.

• Make sure the furnace/air handler door compartments are securely screwed down and closed. If the door panels are not secure, the system will not start.

The current temperature of my home does not appear correct, why is that?

Numerous factors impact the temperature that is sensed by your thermostat. Depending on installation location, how the device is mounted, the type of wall material, and many other factors, Vine Thermostat may sense a temperature slightly different than the actual temperature in your space.

If you did not install the Air seal on the back of your Vine Thermostat when installing your device, we strongly recommend doing so to prevent airflow in or out of your wall that could impact the sensed temperature. Vine Thermostat also requires the front cover to be installed on the device to accurately sense temperature in your home.

After double checking the installation, sometimes external factors will continue to impact the device, and an adjustment is needed. You can apply an offset to the sensed temperature by navigating to Settings -> Advanced -> Sensor Calibration-> Temp Display and adjusting the Temperature offset to match the displayed temperature on your Vine Thermostat to another external thermostat that you rely on to calibrate the temperature.

We strongly recommend waiting for a few hours after installation before adjusting the offset to ensure that the sensors have fully adjusted to the environment. When adjusting the offset, we recommend not using handheld infrared temperature sensors as a reference, as they often have multiple degrees of error tolerance.

What If There Is No C-Wire?

If you do not have the C wire, you can try to do as follows, but please confirm with your HVAC manufacturer or the electric engineer firstly.

1. Furnace Part: Put Gwire connect to C terminal, use the black jumper wire connect G and Y or W(if you need heat, connect to W, otherwise connect to Y)

2. Thermostat Part: Connect G wire to C terminal on the wallplate. G terminal on the wallplate is blank.

What is a C-Wire? A C-wire, also known as a common wire or a “continuous wire” It is an electrical wire that provides a constant source of power to a thermostat or other HVAC.

Works fabulous and lot’s of hidden features to discover
First let me say this is an unbelievable thermostat for the money. All I have it operating is a unit heater in my shop but it handles the task easily and accurately. I love the fact that I can operate the heater and thermostat remotely through the app. The local weather is displayed on the thermostat too.A surprise feature is the tracking of the temperatures and the run time of the unit for each day. It tracks the history of the ambient temps and the rise and fall of the heat. One feature that would be really nice if the graph that tracks the run time (and heat) would display on the graph the time of day the unit ran. I don’t think that would be too hard to add to the software. Also folks talk about a software update and I have not had an update but the unit works very well. I have a high end, name brand thermostat in my home and I actually like this Vine Thermostat better.

My unit doesn’t work and the software is awful… but not as bad as the support
Here is my interaction with VINE support:I followed 100% of the instructions that came with the VINE thermostat. I had two issues. (1) The VINE thermostat would not enter heating mode and (2) The VINE thermostat consistently displayed temperatures that were inaccurate by anywhere from 2 to 8 degrees.; Thank you for your response. I went through each of the steps and suggestions at a great expense of time to me. I followed each suggestion.Suggestions and response.SUGGESTION: 1.Why isn’t my heating/cooling turning on?• Ensure the thermostat is wired correctly by following the instructions in the User ManualRESPONSE: The thermostat was set up exactly as the instructions specified. This was done even though the instructions were not well written.SUGGESTION: ― You can also try to reinstall your original thermostat to make sure there is not an HVAC system issue, that is preventing the system from turning on.RESPONSE: I followed this suggestion and my heating (and cooling) worked perfectly without any special configuration on my Emerson thermostat.COMMENT/SUGGESTION(?) If your heating/cooling doesn’t come on with the original thermostat, you may need to contact a professional technician to service your equipment.RESPONSE: I thought a professional technician sent these messages. I would have like to communicate with a professional that would make such a comment. After all, I didn’t say anything about the possibility that your chips overheat causing the thermostat to read temperature to be inaccurate… or, I didn’t suggest that your professional(?) quality control people may have sent out an untested unit.SUGGESTION: • Secure wire connections.RESPONSE: I ensured secure wire connections.COMMENT/SUGGESTION? ― If you attempt to pull a wire, it ought to remain firmly in place and not be dislodged. Make sure the wire is all the way down and seated in the thermostat terminals. If you aren’t sure, push the paddle down and pull the wire out. Then, try to push it back into the terminal for a better fit.RESPONSE: Of course I “attempted” to pull a wire to ensure connection. I am quite sure it was connected. I have over 50 years experience with wiring and an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.COMMENT: • Ensure that there is power to your HVAC system and there is no error code on your control board indicating a system issue.― If there is an error code or no power to your system, contact an HVAC professional to service your equipment.RESPONSE: Oh.. I see that your comments were meant to be explanations of your responses. Well my response is that I am now cynical. Turn the power on??? c’mon man!SUGGESTION: • Reset breakers.• Make sure the furnace/air handler door compartments are securely screwed down and closed. If the door panels are not secure, the system will not start.RESPONSE: Please see my previous response.MY COMMENT IN CONCLUSION: The VINE 550 thermostat is not well tested. I strongly suspect that the VINE software is a fault as a thermostat is a very simple unit to design. If you have a Chief Design or Chief Technology officer this unit suggests you might need a new one. I messed around calling your “no support” telephone number and trying reasonable things that one of your end customers might try. Granted you don’t run into a majority of your client base that have extensive EE backgrounds. The VINE company should go through the 20% of the feedback that have rated your product as 1 star. And to add the final icing of insult, Amazon said you want to add a re-stocking fee. For what??? You can’t re-stock a defective unit unless of course you already know it is a software issue. So, I am a very dissatisfied customer. I don’t usually get this worked up about a product.

    Works great, followed directions
Mine worked fine. I don’t understand these people writing these bad reviews essentially the electrical engineer. I followed the instructions. Go to the furnace, take a picture of the connections to the motherboard, verify colors and connections at the furnace. Make sure to disconnect power to the furnace. The wires and connections are pretty universal, but have the manual ready turned to the wiring info. Make the connections to the plate as instructed and match to the furnace connections. Once finished with wiring, mount controller to wired base. Apply power. Test air conditioning first. Should see the compressor come on within 30-60 seconds. Turn temp down well below room temp. Run for 5 minutes and check vents to verify cold air. Check compressor outdoor is running. Change over to heat, turn up heat beyond room temperature. All a minute or so for heat and fan to come on. Slow to run 5 minutes, check vents, verify heat is coming out. Sent temp or climate range. Done. Have installed and tested in 45min. Been running for 1month on climate range heat/AC at 67deg. The thermostat keeps the house between 65-70 winter time. Asa far as the user that didn’t test the heat side, either do more troubleshooting, (might be not pilot light it igniter not working) wiring not connected and so on. The app was easy, pulled down from play store. Connected with ApP to unit, connected the unit to wifi. Once connected, was able to update the software and control features. Wasn’t hard, all instructions in manual.

    Good wifi Thermostat!
I like that it’s voice activated through Alexa. Also you can control from the vine and Alexa app while away. The touch screen only is touch where the buttons are otherwise it’s not truly a touch screen. Works very well otherwise and easy to control in a variety of ways! Great value for the money! Easy installation and connected easily to wifi. Size is great very compact and perfect for what I need! You’ll need a c-wire to connect this otherwise you’ll need a c- wire adapter. Mine already had a c- wire.
