Infocarrier M.2 SSD Dock work with the USB3.2 Gen2x1 Type C interface, and is equipped with UASP to greatly improve data transmission efficiency. It is plug-and-play, and does not require a driver. Works fine, but not the best design and USB-C cable was DOA
Wanted to get this as a m.2 drive tester, I’ve had several m.2 enclosures before but because you have to take them apart to swap drives, enclosures don’t make great platforms to swap and test drives with. It’s fine, tested this on a Intel SATA 128GB and a Samsung PM951. It does max 10Gpbs bandwidth over crystaldiskmark on the Samsung so it’s definitely doing the 10Gbps USB. The quality is good, there’s a peel for the bottom that protects the rubber bottom in the box, and the rubber is decently grippy, making this a pretty good fixture on a desk. There is a power button to turn this on/off. You do have to press it every single time you plug this in to a computer after unplugging it. It’s not too annoying for me, but it is an extra step.Now I have 2 problems with this thing. One with design and the other with the cable. This thing comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable in the box, but that cable was DOA. Not a big issue, but for someone who doesn’t have cables it is an issue. The design problem is the lack of a cutout for a 30mm SSD. Even though 30mm SSDs are quite rare, they are pretty available on Ebay and are one of the cheapest, legitimate way to get a 128GB SSD. Typical m.2 enclosures also have a 30mm cutout. I see that this one has some circuitry that would’ve interfered with a 30mm cutout, but if other enclosures can design their wiring but still have cutouts for 30mm while being smaller, this one could’ve as well. I would’ve given this a 3-star because of this (and I have 30mm SSDs that I’ve tested before), but given how infrequent 30mm SSDs are out in the wild outside of OEMs, I understand the design choice to not support it.

I did not read the description closely enough, and I thought it was a budget USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (instead of Gen 2×1). I thought it was âjust an enclosureâ with extra room for a larger heat sink. I did not realize it was an open faced âdocking stationâ for NVME M.2 Drives. (Think of other docks for 3.5 or 2.5 drives that are not completely sealed). I am frequently moving drives around my systems including M.2 drives. In the past I would have to physically install the target NVME drive in an enclosure, now I can just set it in the ARCHGON dock in a few seconds. A lot of the systems I get have very small capacity NVME drives, so the first thing that I need to do is to rip out the small drive and upgrade it with a larger drive. Anything like the ARCHGON USB 3.2 TYPE-C ALUMINUM EXTERNAL SSD DOCK that makes that task a little easier is very welcome.SETUPJust bend the rubber stopper out of the way, install the M.2 Drive, and let the rubber stopper hold it in place. Once connected to the computer, there is an On/Off power button to turn on the drive. Thatâs it.Testing, was exactly as expected with ~1000Mbps Read and 900 Write speeds.RECOMMENDATIONI recommend the ARCHGON USB 3.2 TYPE-C ALUMINUM EXTERNAL SSD DOCK for anyone that is constantly swapping M.2 NVME drives around.

Pretty straight forward thing here. Itâs an external NVME container meaning if you have a spare nvme, you simply slide it in here and plug it into your computer via usb-c port, and it acts like an external hard drive. Thereâs a power button to this so sometimes I forget to turn it on, as I pretend itâs a flash drive. Iâve even plugged it into my smart tv and read movies off it. Think of it as a much bigger capacity flash drive. Works for me!

Best USB-C M.2 external dock that I’ve used – Works great with Mac
This is by far the best M.2 USB-C external dock that I have used. I got this to use with a Mac Studio that I picked up the other week.The aluminum construction feels like a top-quality part. The open design will be better than the closed unit that I was using. Installation was very simple because of the rubber holder for the M.2 drive. I installed a Samsung 2TB 980 Pro in this unit to use for video projects. The small compact factor allows me to easily hide it behind my monitor. I like the placement of the off/on switch because unless I am using this dock, I leave it off. On the bottom there is an anti-slide pad which was a nice surprise.MacOS immediately recognized this external drive, and I was apple to format my drive APFS.Iâve used this for several weeks not with no issues at all. The only issue some people may have is the USB-C cable is short, so be mindful of that when purchasing.Iâve worked this external dock hard over the past several weeks working with videos and raw files. Transfer speeds are excellent, and heat was not an issue at all. Overall, I am very satisfied with this Archgon USB-C external dock. If I feel I need another dock, I will definitely buy another one.Archgon sales a heatsink unit designed for this external SSD dock. I ordered one and installed it. Itâs an option that I consider to be worth it.

When I removed my NVME drive from my desktop it left me with a spare drive. This dock enabled me to turn it into external storage. Was very easy to assemble and it works. Drive speeds over USB are faster than an external HD.

Installation of an M.2 drive was easy, and this dock fired up the first time. The cable that is supplied with this dock is USB-Type C on both ends, and it’s pretty short at about 12″ long. Since my desktop PC has a USB-Type A port, I needed to use a different cable. The dock has an on/off button with an LED indicator, as well as an aluminum housing. The standoff that holds the end of the drive is a hard rubber material which worked fine for me, and saved me from having to deal with the tiny screw that usually holds that end of an M.2 drive. My Intel SSD didn’t have a heatsink and it ran pretty cool anyway, but this dock will accommodate an SSD heatsink if needed.
