Clacky and beautiful to type on!
I regularly use a very basic Logitech K270 as my work keyboard with a Windows laptop. I found I preferred the taller keys, the key travel, and the overall precision of a deeper traditional keyboard. But on my 2015 iMac, I still used the stock, flat Apple keyboard. I have considered another Logitech for a while, but after trying their pitiful collection of Mac keyboards, I never found one I liked.Reading some recent reviews of mechanical keyboards, I became intrigued. The Keychron keyboards seemed to be recommended on just about every list I came across — either as a good starter mechanical, or as an overall favorite. They may not be using the Cherry MX switches that more expensive keyboards use, but they are comparable. So I caught the K8 for Mac with Brown switches on sale and took a chance.I LOVE IT! It has the clack of my old IBM keyboard from “back in the day,” while also being Bluetooth or wired, backlit, and a dream to type on. Also, because it has a metal frame and some weight to it, it stays put. I am by no means a touch typist, but I can get going pretty fast once I am rolling, and the Brown switches on this K8 have just the right sensitivity to give me much more precision than the flat Mac keyboard. It was quick to pair, easy to adjust the settings (lighting and timeout), and coming from everyday work on a PC, having the Home, End, and Del keys is a definite bonus.Is this for everyone? Maybe not. It is not as loud as some mechanical keyboards, but it does make a lot more noise than the Apple keyboard. It also sits a LOT higher than the very flat Apple keyboard and it’s even a bit taller than my Logitech. Obviously, as a mechanical, it has a lot of key travel — 2mm — versus a typical Apple or laptop keyboard, so those used to those keyboards may have a bit of work getting used to typing. (The only laptop keyboard I have ever liked typing on is my old Surface Book, which has very solid keys and marvelous precision.)My one quibble is with the size of the lettering on the keys — or more precisely, the punctuation keys. As I said, I am not a touch typist, so now and then I really do have to hunt and peck. Having half-sized punctuation laid out on a key side-by-side makes it hard for my aging eyes to see well. Still, I’ve cranked out quite a few pages before writing this review, and I am getting use to it. If you have been thinking of a mechanical keyboard, give the K8 a try.

Keychron K8 Tenkeyless Wireless Mechanical Keyboard â Great for Typing, but Use a Wrist RestIâm really happy with my purchase of the Keychron K8 Tenkeyless Wireless Mechanical Keyboard. The design is sleek, the packaging was impressive, and setting it up was very easy. It connects seamlessly via Bluetooth or Type-C, making it perfect for multitasking between devices.I originally wanted the Gateron Blue switches for their higher resistance but decided against them due to the noise. I went with the Gateron G Pro Brown switches instead, and Iâm pleased with them. They provide nice tactile feedback without being too loud, which makes them great for typing in quieter environments. That said, I do sometimes slip and accidentally press keys, but itâs a minor issue for me.One important thing to note: I recommend using a wrist rest. Without one, I found my wrists getting sore after extended typing sessions due to the keyboardâs higher profile.Overall, itâs a solid, reliable keyboard for typing, and I would definitely recommend it, especially if you use a wrist rest for better comfort.

The standard for Mechanical Keyboards
If you’re looking for a Mechanical Keyboard, you were likely referred to the Keychron K8 at some point. There are a large, large pool of mech kbs out there for all kinds of price point and from many companies known and unknown. But Keychron and by extension the K8 is the standard for what you should compare all other mech kbs to. Anything from Razor, Steelseries, and Logitech completely fail compared to the Keychron K8 at similar price points. If you are considering any of those brands as an option, ignore them and just get a Keychron of similar price.The overall typing experience is nice and silent, but providing the tactile sound that you desire from a mechanical keyboard. The backlight is very helpful when it is in the night and you rather keep the lights dim. The K8 is also very durable which is surprising for the price point and comes with a equally durable wire.In summary, I can’t compare very well to lesser known niche brands. But if you consider any of the more known brands, just ignore them and get a Keychron.

Perfect minimalist for Mac and PC user
Perfect keyboard for me as a Mac and PC user. Packed with features yet so minimalist. I love the clean and simple design. The grey color is also a bit plus for me. Having both bluetooth and wired connectivities is so convenient. There are insane amount of lighting effects. Being able to adjust the backlight brightness is great. Every backlight keyboard should have that feature. The keyboard is made with quality materials and feels really solid. The Gateron Brown switches they used are a bit less tactile compared to Cherry MX brown switches but it really comes down to personal preference. I got used to it pretty soon, however, if you prefer a strong tactile feel then Gateron Brown switches might not be for you.For around $70~80, it’s a good value for a good quality mechanical keyboard like this.

I’ve had some pretty bad luck with keyboards lately. Both my Ducky and Logi keyboards developed unbearable key chatter.I’ve only just got the Keychron. Initial observations are that aesthetically it’s a pretty good looking keyboard, although not amazing. Gateron brown switches sound really nice and the switches feel really smooth as if they are lubed (are they?).Backlight is nice, although all modes except for the standard on or off are completely gimmicky and non usable.Overall – good so far. I’ll update this review in the future, if I run into any issues.

the Keychron k8 is hot swappable on the keychron website. But when i tried to swap the switches, i found out that the switches are soldered on.

If youâre not a fan of red switches- or not a fan of switches which are highly sensitive and you canât tell whether youâve touched them or not- this is the keyboard for you. The material on the switches and the weighty nature of the keyboard confers a premium feel to the device. The backlight also looks nice. I believe pricing is appropriate to the quality of the device.
