Never was there a better shredder
Wow. I can’t believe I waited so long to purchase this shredder. After nearly 20 years of service, sadly I maimed our old shredder by overloading it one time too many. Due to my emotional attachment to it, for the last year I tried numerous treatments, prescriptions and anecdotes all to no avail. Out of desperation for a working shredder I started my search for a replacement. Oh but how do you replace such an integral part of the family who’s only shortcomings were age and abuse related? Still I persevered thru the enormous task of perusing the hundreds of shredders listed with their various attributes and shortcomings and wild array of reviews. Until I just couldn’t anymore. In one last ditch effort to resuscitate our ailing shredder I purchased some lubricant sheets. Sadly these were not the miracle drug our shredder needed, although they did seem to improve her performance slightly. Too little, too late.Remorseful and full of guilt over my lack of shredder longevity skills I just took a leap of faith and ordered this Aurora 1410MA Shredder. She arrived quickly in some very substantial protective packaging and I hurriedly set her up in our spare room out of sight and ear shot of our old shredder. With due diligence, I read her operation manual so I might not make the same mistakes I’d made with her predecessor. Although in reality, her obvious and convenient controls are easy enough to navigate that our cat could do the shredding if need be. So there she sat in all her new shiny glory in the middle of our guest room waiting to devour the litany of personal information we constantly need destroyed. As the weeks passed by, I’d sneak piles of credit card offers and the random document into the guest room for shredding all the while still feeding the old shredder a sheet or two in between. Aurora is so quiet, I never worried about our old shredder hearing her. Then one day it happened, the final test, so to speak. A replacement credit card arrived in the mail! After activating the new card and making the old card inactive, I knew the time had come. I carried the dead credit card into the guest room and stood in front of Aurora. Our old shredder never had the ability to shred a card so this was a new experience and I was pensive about trying it. I could hear the heartbreaking growling of our old overloaded shredder echoing in my mind. Finally I just went for it. Dropped that dead card in the slot and… Oh my! Quietly Aurora chewed it up and swallowed it like it was a walk in the park. I swear she licked her lips afterwards. It was settled, Aurora would stay. She’d met all our expectations and exceeded many. She was a keeper. I hugged her and headed off to the home office to gather up our old shredder. I loaded her in the car, all the while cooing at her about all the fabulous years of hard work and service. I bragged to her about the thousands upon thousands of successful shreds she’d made thru the years as I drove her to the recycle center. There, I sat for a few minutes extolling all her virtues to her and how much we appreciated her service one last time. Then, with a heavy heart, I removed her from the car and gently laid her atop a pile of other recently departed electronics and with a lump in my throat, I gave her a soft little pat and whispered my final farewell before turning away and heading home. Farewell old friend. RIP.At home, Aurora must have sensed the deep sadness in me as I rolled her to her new spot in the office because once I started feeding her the pile of papers that had been growing over the last few weeks, she devoured every bit of it all the while purring softly. Shortly she was full and I was amazed by her removable bin. It worked flawlessly and the contents were shredded more efficiently than any I’ve ever seen. As I replaced her emptied bin, I gave her a gentle pat and smiled. Yes, the healing had begun and Aurora’s acceptance is complete. We love her. She does everything that was stated in her listing and we’ve been pleasantly surprised by her quiet strength. We’ll never forget our old shredder and hope that Aurora will outlast her. Time will tell, for now, we’re a happily shredding family again.

Excactly as described and much quieter than I expected.
I shred a fair amount of paper and after 15 years of owning a Fellows 10 Sheet shredder, I fed it an expired credit card. It was rated to shred credit cards, but alas, my old card had a metal core which caused it to self-destruct. Enter the Aurora AU1800XZ and one of the first things I noticed is a note not to shred metal core credit cards, good to know, right? The throat is a little tighter than my old unit, but I only had to slightly adjust the way I feed it. The best part is that this shredder is a third of the noise of other shredders that I have used. The shred rate is good and it has no issues with 10-plus pages, after all, it is rated for 18. Very generous waste bin and for the money, I would recommend this unit.

Al momento ha funcionado muy bien, tritura en pedazos muy pequeños, aunque dice que tritura discos y tarjetas hace más ruido, como si el motor se forzara.En cuanto la capacidad de hojas se excede o cuando ya trabajó por mucho tiempo, esta se detiene por si sola.
