I use shredded chicken often in my recipes but I hate having to shred using two forks. Itâs time consuming, I burn my fingers, and I never do a good job. This product is absolutely amazing. It consists of a base plate with vicious spikes, an insert, a top cover with more vicious spikes (donât worry, theyâre plastic so wonât injure you), a silicone mat, and a cleaning brush. To use, you place the insert into the base, chop chicken into 2-inch chunks, place 3-4 chunks on the spikes, put on the top cover, then grab both knobs and turn the top cover back and forth. You can control the amount of shredding: if you do it for a short time, you get chunks. If you do it for 15-20 seconds, you get thread-like shards. When done shredding, you simply pull out the insert and it lifts the chicken off the spikes. It comes with a cleaning brush, which you really donât need. It also comes with a silicon mat to help the base stick to the counter top. But I used it without the mat and the shredder stayed in place (thereâre rubber feet on the bottom.) MUCH easier and faster than shredding with two forks!
So today I cooked two chicken breast halves to try with this shredder. I placed about a third of the WARM chunks in the shredder on the silicone mat and twisted about 8-10 times (very easily), removed the lid to move a couple pieces that got stuck against the outer edge into the center, and shredded a few more times; repeated twice more with the remaining chicken pieces. Here are my thoughts:1) Use warm protein, not cold from the fridge–much easier to shred2) Don’t overcrowd the shredder with too much chicken at one time, and occasionally lift the lid to move pieces from the outer edge3) The silicone mat is a definite plus–my shredder did not move at all4) The shredder made the task MUCH simpler5) I washed everything immediately after shredding using the included brush and a little soapy water – super easyIf this holds up to moderate use I will be thrilled. If it breaks I will be back to update.

Quality Chicken Shredder
I have used a similar chicken shredder for more than a year but I got this one because it has a few extra features that are a real upgrade. First of all, the basic shredding technique is the same, I think itâs helpful to cut your cooked chicken into medium sized chunks, if theyâre too big this doesnât seem to work as well. That being said, this is such a time saver and labor saver, especially when using a rotisserie chicken from the store.As for the upgrades, they are as follows: There is a large, flat silicone pad that sits under the shredder to keep it stable. While my previous shredder had a little bit of grip underneath, it wasnât enough. This pad holds it. Then there is a nice brush that is very useful for the cleanup. But my favorite upgrade part is the extra tray that lifts out. It makes taking out the finished shredded chicken so much easier than before. Itâs really wonderful.Even if you already have an older model chicken shredder, itâs worth getting this upgrade.

Wow this thing is much bigger than I expected it to be. You can fit like half a chicken in it!? I don’t actually know where to put it. It does it’s job adequately, but taking it apart is a hassle.

Okay, seriously though – I’ve been wanting to try a chicken shredder and I’m glad I did. This soooo beats shredding chicken or pork with two forks! It has two handles so you can balance the force you apply and to counter it there’s a washable (!) non-slip mat that goes underneath the whole thing. It works out really nicely. Just open the shredder, drop in a few pieces of meat, close the shredder and apply force to the two knob-handles to rotate the top half – and a bit of downforce helps, too. Presto! Nearly instant shreds for tacos, salads, burritos, sandwiches, and so on. It’s so much easier than what I’d been doing for decades! Clean up is easy too. I could toss it in the dishwasher but its just as easy to use a dishes brush on the two surfaces with spikes and a quick wipe around the outside. Construction and materials are both good quality. I’m very happy with this product!

So much better, quicker and easier than claws
I love shredded chicken and pork, but loathe using meat claws to make it. Always a giant mess, never really shreds fully and takes forever. This chicken shredder changes that completely. I selected this one because it has a removable clear tray to collect the shredded chicken which makes it easier to collect and to clean. It’s easy to assemble (just push in the handles), easy to use and easy to store. It is also made of polypropylene, which is a BPA-free, food grade plastic. I would recommend that the seller advertise that more prominently; I had to go look for it and almost zipped past it. It says this is dishwasher safe, but if you have a dishwasher that tends to run hot I could see the plastic warping so use caution. But this does exactly what you want it to do at a good price.
